Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially and fails to reach the required minimum word count of 150 words, falling short by 19 words. While you attempted to explain why you are suitable by mentioning your teaching background, other parts of the prompt, such as saying what else you could do for the family and giving detailed reasons for wanting the job, remain limited and under-developed. For example, your reasons for wanting the job are restricted to brief statements like 'I need this job' and 'It become my passion now,' which lack sufficient expansion. To improve and reach a higher band, you must fully develop all bullet points in the prompt and ensure your response meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation in your letter, with basic paragraphs used to separate your ideas. However, there is no clear overall progression, and your use of cohesive devices is sometimes faulty, inadequate, or repetitive. For instance, transitional phrases like 'In addition to this,' and 'Morerover,' are used mechanically, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as starting the letter with 'Dear Sir' despite the prompt stating the advertisement was placed by a couple. Additionally, paragraphing is fragmented, with single-sentence paragraphs disrupting the flow of the letter. To improve your score in coherence and cohesion, you should group related ideas together into well-developed paragraphs and use a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices to connect your sentences smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey basic meaning. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'english teacher' lacking a capital letter and article ('an English teacher'), 'timming' which is misspelled, and 'other' written as 'otherjob' without a space. You also rely on basic vocabulary and make word formation errors, such as 'masters in english' instead of a Master's degree in English. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your lexical range by using less common vocabulary accurately, paying closer attention to word forms, collocations, and correct spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your grammar and sentence structures show a limited range, relying heavily on simple sentences. When you attempt complex structures or more varied grammar, errors frequently occur. There are frequent grammatical mistakes throughout the text, including tense and verb form errors such as 'I am provided mobile coaching' (passive voice error) and 'I visit to there place' (unnecessary preposition and incorrect pronoun 'their'), as well as subject-verb agreement issues like 'It become my passion now'. Punctuation and article usage also show frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should practice using a wider variety of complex sentence structures accurately and focus on eliminating basic errors in verb tenses, articles, and prepositions.
