Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, addressing your suitability as a teacher, additional help you can offer, and your reasons for wanting the job. Your explanation of being a university professor and a social worker provides relevant ideas that satisfy the requirements. However, some aspects remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of what else you could do beyond teaching is somewhat brief, mentioning only transportation and home tutoring without fully expanding on how this benefits the family. To reach a higher band, all parts of the task would need to be extended with fully elaborated supporting details and a more seamless connection to the family's needs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for a personal correspondence. You have used paragraphing to separate different points, such as your qualifications, additional services, and personal motivations. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, as seen in the transition 'Furthermore... Moreover... besides this,' which feels slightly repetitive and over-used. Referencing and referencing links between sentences could be smoother. To achieve a higher score, you should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices without relying on repetitive connectors, ensuring an entirely natural logical progression throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message, but it shows limitations that keep it at a lower band. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'renowned' and 'certification', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as writing 'reknowned' instead of renowned, and lowercase pronouns like 'i'. Additionally, phrases like 'doing well and great' and 'provide this class' lack precise collocation. To progress to a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, demonstrating a strong awareness of style and collocation while eliminating spelling and word-choice slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures like 'If you cannot drop off and pick up your children for this class, i can come to your house'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing capitalisation for the pronoun 'I', capitalization errors in the middle of sentences ('language', 'University'), and prepositional issues like 'teaching your children about language'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication. To move up to the next band, you would need to produce a higher frequency of error-free sentences, demonstrate better control over punctuation and articles, and ensure consistent capitalization throughout the text.
