Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Collins,

I hope you are doing well!.

I recently saw an advertisement posted by you on instagram where you have mentioned that you need a language tutor for your children for a year. First of all I want to confirm if the vacancy is still open as the ad was posted 4 days ago. If the position is still available I would like to have this opportunity. I also read the eligibility criteria you mentioned on the basis of that I found myself suitable for this job.

I would like to mention my qualifications and skills so that which will help you to make a decision. I am a post graduate in Science and Literature from University of London. Additionally, I am a certified French and Spanish expert. Regarding my work experience, I have worked for 2 years as a professor in University of Columbia. On the basis of my work experience, I can handle children, and have knowledge to teach them.

Along with their language lessons, I can also teach them other subjects such as Science, Computer, Maths, and SST. Furthermore, I can help them with their assigments and preparation of exams. The tutions can be done from your home as well as per your suitability and the timings can be flexible. As I am new in Australia so I need a job for my survival here, also it will help me in my PR application. Thank you for your consideration in advance. I am looking forward to your response.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task prompt, covering why the writer is suitable, what else they can do for the family, and their reasons for wanting the job. However, the development across these areas is somewhat uneven. While the qualifications and additional subjects are clearly stated, the reasons for wanting the job are a bit superficial, mentioning personal survival and PR application rather than professional enthusiasm for tutoring or cultural exchange. The opening paragraph spends unnecessary space asking if the vacancy is still open rather than focusing fully on the core requirements. Ideas are relevant and present, but this imbalance and slight under-development of certain points place the response firmly in the middle tier of achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and logical progression through the bullet points of the prompt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, qualifications, additional skills, and personal motivations. However, cohesion sometimes feels a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly with transitional phrases like 'On the basis of my work experience' and 'I would like to mention'. Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. This effective baseline organization combined with some emerging flexibility pushes the performance just above the core middle level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'eligibility criteria', 'post graduate', and 'certified... expert'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as writing 'Instagram' with a lowercase letter, using 'assigments' (spelling error), and 'tutions' instead of 'tuitions'. Phrasing like 'for my survival here' is also slightly unnatural for a professional job application context. These lexical choices and minor spelling errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to easily follow the message while reflecting a standard middle-tier vocabulary profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'If the position is still available I would like to have this opportunity.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing commas after introductory phrases, an unnecessary exclamation mark combined with a period ('doing well!.'), and slight awkwardness in prepositions and article usage ('from University of London' instead of 'from the University of London'). Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, demonstrating a solid control of basic grammatical structures alongside a reasonable attempt at complexity.
