Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task prompt, covering why the writer is suitable, what else they could do for the family, and their reasons for wanting the job. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the explanation of suitability through teaching experience is somewhat brief and generalized. The inclusion of teaching moral values and playing badminton effectively covers the request regarding additional help, and the purpose of wanting the job is clearly communicated. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all points more thoroughly, providing richer details about their background and specific ways they plan to engage the children.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows an appropriate layout for general correspondence, beginning with an informal salutation. The response is divided into logical paragraphs covering different aspects of the prompt, such as suitability, additional activities, and practical arrangements. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For example, transition words like 'Moreover' and 'consequensly' are used, but referencing and logical flow between sentences could be smoother. There are minor abrupt shifts between ideas, such as moving from teaching morals directly into sports abilities. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure tighter logical transitions across sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the intended message despite some noticeable limitations. The writer attempts some less common expressions, such as 'inculcate moral values' and 'a good hand at badminton', which show an effort to use idiomatic phrasing. However, there are some word-choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'consequensly', 'aree', 'leaning', and 'strret4b', which prevent the writing from achieving greater precision. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they highlight the need for greater control over spelling and word forms. To progress further, the writer should incorporate a more precise range of vocabulary and carefully check for spelling mistakes before submission.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and conditional statements, such as 'if you aree for this agreement'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in the newspaper', 'for the modern time'), incorrect preposition use ('resident of strret4b, near public park'), and a comma splice near the end of the text. Fortunately, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the meaning easily. To reach the next band, the writer should increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to articles, prepositions within grammatical patterns, and punctuation rules.
