Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Brown,
I am writing in resoponse to your advertisement looking for someone to teach Punjabi language to your children for a year. I am very interested in this opportunity and believe that i would be well suited to the position.
First, I am a native speaker and have an excellent command on this language. Moreover, I like to work with children. I am having 3 years of experience in teaching at primary school. I am patient, friendly and responsible, which are important qualities to teach children. I always try to teach young one with an interactive and innovative ways such as stories and games.
I can also help your children with their homework and can teach them some interpersonal skills. I can assist your children with vocabulary and would help them to boost their confidence while doing communication.
I would particularly like this postition because I enjoy working with children of different age. At the same while teaching my language to your children I can explore your culture and show them my culture too.
I would be delighted to discuss the position further and answer any question you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.
Your's faithfully,
Arsh Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose throughout. Your suitability is supported with relevant details: you are a native Punjabi speaker, have three years of primary-school teaching experience, and describe yourself as patient and friendly. You also offer homework help and explain that you want to exchange cultural knowledge. These points make the letter persuasive and sufficiently developed overall. The additional help you could provide is less fully explained, however: “interpersonal skills” and “boost their confidence” are mentioned without showing how you would support these aims. Briefly explaining a practical activity or approach would make this part more convincing and extend the ideas more evenly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your interest, explain your suitability, describe other help you can offer, and give your reasons for applying before closing politely. Paragraphing supports this organisation, and linking expressions such as “First,” “Moreover,” and “I would particularly like” help guide the reader. The ideas are generally easy to follow, although some connections feel a little mechanical, and the second paragraph contains several qualities and teaching methods in quick succession. You could improve the flow by grouping related points and using a more varied range of transitions or reference words. Overall, the organisation is logical and the reader can follow the purpose without difficulty.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal application letter, including relevant terms such as “native speaker,” “interactive,” “innovative,” and “responsible.” The meaning remains clear, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. For example, “excellent command on this language” would more naturally be “excellent command of Punjabi,” while “doing communication” is not idiomatic. There are also spelling errors in “resoponse” and “postition,” and “Your’s faithfully” is incorrectly formed. Aim to check spelling and learn common word partnerships, especially for teaching and communication. More precise phrasing would make your otherwise relevant vocabulary sound more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including the relative clause in “which are important qualities” and the sentence beginning “At the same while teaching…”. Most of your meaning is clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I am having 3 years of experience” should be “I have three years of experience,” and “children of different age” needs a plural form. The sentence beginning “At the same while teaching” also needs clearer structure and punctuation, such as “At the same time, while teaching my language…”. Check pronoun capitalisation (“i”), articles, and sentence boundaries. Greater control of these forms would make the letter more polished.
