Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I recently saw an advertisement about teaching a french language to your children and i am really happy to say that i am from paris and currently living in australia for my higher education. However, as i am a student here i can work part time work and teaching your children would be best for me as i am an expert in speaking french.

Not only this but i can help you with other things too. Such as, doing household chores or keeping your garden area clean and taking care of your dog, As you have mentioned about a small dog. Moreover, for a long time i was looking for a work in near by area and your house is only few minutes away from my house so there will be no issue for me. Although, as a student it is really important for me to do part time job to pay my rent and everyday expenses for instance, grocery, electricity bill, tution fees etc. I wish i will be the best choice for your children.

I look forward to your positive response.

Best regards,

Suhani Jingar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain your French background and teaching ability, offer help with chores, gardening and dog care, and give personal reasons for wanting the position. These details make the letter relevant and your purpose is clear. However, some points are more fully covered than others. Your suitability is mainly asserted through “I am an expert in speaking French”; adding a specific example of teaching or working with children would make this more convincing. Your reasons for applying are clear, but the focus on rent and expenses could be balanced with a reason connected to the family or the teaching experience. Overall, the main task is covered, though some ideas need further development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce yourself and your suitability, then describe other help and your reasons, before closing politely. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Although” help connect ideas, and the reader can follow your purpose. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical or do not express the relationship accurately. For example, “Although” introduces a reason for needing work rather than a contrast, while “Not only this but” is an awkward transition. The second paragraph also combines several different points in a long sequence. Use clearer paragraph breaks and simpler links to separate your additional help from your reasons for applying.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “household chores,” “taking care of your dog,” and “higher education.” There are also attempts to express specific circumstances, such as living nearby and needing to cover expenses. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “a french language,” “a work,” and “everyday expenses for instance.” Spelling and capitalisation also need attention in “french,” “near by,” and “tution.” These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common phrases as complete units, such as “teach French,” “find work nearby,” and “cover my living expenses.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “as” and “although,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I can work part time work” repeats the object and has an incorrect structure; “your children would be best for me” needs a clearer construction, such as “teaching your children would suit me well.” In “I wish i will be the best choice,” the verb pattern is incorrect, and the pronoun “I” should be capitalised. Punctuation is also uneven, particularly in the long second paragraph, where a comma splice appears before “As you have mentioned.” Check verb patterns, articles and sentence boundaries when proofreading.
