Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in teaching your children to my language for a year.
Firstly, This is my native language and I'm speaking this language from when I was a child. In addition, when I was in my back home I was a teacher and I was teaching this language in a school. Moreover, I got a gold medal in this language in my high school. I have an experience in a daycare where I was teaching a children about this language.
Furthermore, I can also teach your children about beneficial skills, communication and support them in other difficulties. Moreover, I have recently moved in the city and currently I am looking for this opportunity because I have very well knowledge about this language, as well as I need a part-time job.
I would be appreciate if you could give me this opportunity. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Keya Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain your suitability through your native-language ability and teaching experience, offer to help with communication and other difficulties, and state that you want the opportunity and need part-time work. These details make the letter relevant and its purpose clear. However, the additional help you could provide is vague, and your reasons for wanting the job are only briefly explained; for example, you could say why teaching children in Australia appeals to you or what you hope to gain from the experience. The suitability points are more developed than the other two, so the response covers the task but does not yet extend every idea equally. A more specific explanation would strengthen the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall sequence: an opening statement, reasons you are qualified, other help you can offer, and a closing request. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “In addition,” and “Furthermore” help readers follow the points. However, the repeated use of “Moreover” and the list-like sequence of connectors make some cohesion feel mechanical. The second paragraph also combines your additional contribution with your reasons for applying, so the relationship between these ideas is not fully clear. Use separate paragraphs for the three main points and connect ideas through their meaning, rather than relying on a connector at the start of each sentence. This would make the organisation more natural and the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “native language,” “gold medal,” “daycare,” and “part-time job.” These choices are relevant, and the reader can understand your experience and motivation. However, the range is limited and some phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “my back home,” “beneficial skills,” and “very well knowledge.” Repetition of “language” and “teaching” also reduces variety. Aim for more natural collocations and precise descriptions of what you can offer, such as “support the children with their studies” or “help them develop communication skills.” Improving word forms and phrasing will make the letter sound more fluent and professional without changing its clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer sentences with clauses, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors, however, occur in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “I'm speaking this language from when I was a child” would be more accurately expressed as “I have spoken this language since childhood,” while “I have an experience” needs a different article pattern. In “I would be appreciate,” the verb form is incorrect, and “a children” has a number-agreement error. Capitalisation after “Firstly” also needs attention. Practise accurate present perfect forms and check articles and singular/plural agreement; these corrections would improve control while preserving your attempts at varied sentences.
