Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Ali,

I am writing this letter in response to your advertisement on social media that you want to hire someone to teach your two children a Australian native language for one year. I want to request you that you should give me a chance to teach your children.

First of all, I want to inform you that I would be good choice for teaching native language to younger adults because I have an experience of four year online teaching this language. Additionally, I have a good communication skills too.

Furthermore, I want to tell you that along with this I am also an expert in teaching other basic manners like how to behave respectfully with others at home or outside. Moreover, I also teach them other skills like how to play outdoor safely.

Lastly, I want to do this job because I want to continue my career as a teacher in Australia and it requires five year experience thus after teaching I am also able to fulfill my dream to come your country as a professional teacher.

I hope you consider my request and I am waiting for your prompt response.

Kind Regards,

Nosheen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain your four years of online teaching, offer to teach manners and outdoor safety, and give a career-related reason for wanting the position. The letter is relevant and its purpose is clear. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, the teaching experience is mentioned but not linked to specific strengths or methods that would suit these children, and the additional help you offer is described briefly. Your reason for wanting the job is understandable, though the connection between the five-year experience requirement and this one-year role could be explained more clearly. Add a specific example of how you would teach the children and clarify your career plan.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce your application, describe your suitability, offer additional help, and explain your motivation before closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Furthermore,” and “Lastly” make the stages easy to follow. This gives the response a coherent structure. To make the organisation more natural and flexible, reduce reliance on formulaic transitions and connect related ideas more smoothly. For instance, the teaching experience and communication skills could be developed together in one paragraph, while the family support could be presented as a separate, clearly focused offer. The closing is appropriate, although the request and expectation of a response repeat the letter’s purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “online teaching,” “communication skills,” “basic manners,” and “professional teacher.” The meaning is generally clear, and you attempt some topic-specific language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “a Australian native language,” “younger adults” for the couple’s children, and “fulfill my dream to come your country” do not express your meaning naturally. There is also repetition of “I want to” and “teach.” Aim for more precise phrases suited to a job application, such as describing experience teaching children and offering practical support to the family. Check articles and common word partnerships when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including clauses introduced by “because,” “that,” and “how,” and the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. Examples include “a Australian native language,” “I would be good choice,” and “I have a good communication skills.” The sentence beginning “thus after teaching” also needs clearer punctuation and a more controlled structure. These errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your points, but they reduce accuracy. Practise article use and singular/plural agreement, and review longer sentences by separating ideas or joining them with a clear conjunction and appropriate punctuation.
