Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have recently went through one of an advertisement in The Daily Express newspaper where it has been indicated that you are looking for a tutor for your kids to teach panjabi language. According to publication, it was crystal clear that your family historically belongs to Panjab and you both have professional jobs which demands eight hours of your day. As a result, I guess you find little or no time to spend with your children. According to me, my three years experience of teaching panjabi language would be good enough to consider me for this role. Additionally, I am available to teach on weekends at your desired location.

If I have to come your home, it would absolutely fine for me. Further, I can help your kids in other subjects as well as within the same fees and time-frame. Additionally, I am available to teach on weekends at your desired location.

From past one month, I am looking for part time work as I am already working as a Personal Support Worker in a long term care home. As I am about to join the nursing school from May 2027, I urgently need part time work to earn and save as much money as possible.

I hope you would consider me best for the mentioned tutor role.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Jasleen Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you describe your three years of Punjabi teaching experience, offer help with other subjects, and explain that you want part-time work to save for nursing school. These details make your application relevant and give the reader a clear reason to consider you. However, some points are less fully developed: you do not explain how your teaching experience makes you effective with children, and the offer to help with other subjects is not supported with examples of what you can teach. The claim that the family has little time for their children is an assumption rather than a helpful reason for your suitability. Develop your strengths and motivation more directly, and avoid inferring personal details about the couple.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from the advertisement and your qualifications to what else you can offer, then to your reasons for applying and a polite closing. Paragraph breaks help separate these functions. However, progression is weakened by repeated information: weekend availability appears twice, and the opening repeats “According to” in consecutive sentences. Some links feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Additionally” and “Further,” while “If I have to come your home” does not connect smoothly to the preceding offer. Group related details together, remove repetition, and use clearer transitions so each paragraph advances the application.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a formal job application, including relevant terms such as “tutor,” “professional jobs,” “part time work,” and “nursing school.” The reader can understand your main points, and you attempt more specific expressions such as “Personal Support Worker” and “long term care home.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “went through one of an advertisement,” “kids,” “within the same fees,” and “consider me best” do not sound natural in this context. “Panjabi” is also usually written “Punjabi” in English. Choose conventional application language and check collocations to make your message sound more precise and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “where,” “as,” and “as I am about to join,” so there is some structural variety. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I have recently went” should be “I recently saw” or “I have recently seen”; “your professional jobs which demands” has a subject–verb agreement error; and “From past one month” needs a different time expression, such as “For the past month.” There are also article and preposition problems in “come your home” and “consider me best.” Review verb forms, agreement, and sentence patterns, while keeping the varied structures you are attempting.
