IELTS Writing Task 1 question

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear .................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Watson,

I want to provide language classes to both of your children. Since I have more than 4 years of teaching experience from my own country, I can teach them my native language significantly. I believe teaching language to your children would be enjoyable for me as well. This is because I always find my self completely engaged into teaching, as it improves my concentartion and release stress.

Apart from teaching, in my perspective, we would certainly make a good friendship bond because I can help you with your shopping and other important household tasks as required.

As I am on official drop from university program, I am looking for a job in order to earn and make connections with local population. To be honest, with this job, I can also get a chance to get familiar with Australian culture, which I have always dreamed of.

I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Manish

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain your teaching experience, offer help with shopping and household tasks, and give reasons for wanting the position, including earning money and learning about Australian culture. These relevant details make your purpose clear. The teaching suitability point is the strongest, with “more than 4 years of teaching experience”; however, the other contributions and motivations are less fully explained. For example, specify what household tasks you could help with and how your experience would benefit the children. The claim that you could teach your language “significantly” is also unclear. The letter covers the task well overall, but more precise, developed support would make it more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your suitability, describe additional help, explain your motivation, and close appropriately. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “Since,” “Apart from,” and “As” help connect ideas. However, some connections feel mechanical or the relationship between ideas is not fully clear. For instance, “we would certainly make a good friendship bond because I can help you with your shopping” links friendship and practical assistance awkwardly. The sentence about teaching being enjoyable also shifts into personal benefits without a smooth transition. Use more natural transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit; clearer links between your experience, family contribution, and motivation would strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “teaching experience,” “native language,” “household tasks,” and “Australian culture,” so the message remains understandable. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “teach them my native language significantly,” “good friendship bond,” and “official drop from university program” do not convey your intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “concentartion” and “my self” also affect the impression of control. Choose familiar, accurate collocations rather than forcing formal-sounding phrases—for example, say that you can teach the children effectively, build a good relationship with the family, and are taking a break from university.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause beginning “Since” and the explanation “This is because…”. Most ideas can be followed, and errors rarely prevent understanding. Some grammatical problems remain, however. In “I always find my self completely engaged into teaching,” the reflexive pronoun should be written as one word, and the preposition pattern is incorrect. “As I am on official drop from university program” is missing articles and has an unclear grammatical construction. The sentence beginning “Apart from teaching” also has an awkwardly structured relationship between its main idea and the reason that follows. Practise accurate article use and common verb–preposition patterns, while retaining the complex sentences you already attempt.
