Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr and Mrs Patel,
I am writing to apply for a position which you advertised in a newspaper yesterday as a tutor to teach my language to your two children. My name is Himanshi Patel and I have completed my studies in Australia.
I think I will be good fit at this position because I am communicate in three languages which is Hindi, Gujarati and English. As you want me to teach my language which is Gujarati to your children then it is quite easy for me to translate their English vocab in to Gujarati. In addition I can understand them well. Moreover, I am also living in Australia since 5 years and I also worked as a teacher in child care home for one year, therefore, I know how to deal with children.
Apart from this, I can also help your family by doing some outdoor activities such as shopping and take children for playing into the park.
As I recently moved here in this area so I left my previous job because of migration. Therefore, I want this job to settle here and start earning.
I look forward to receiving your response at the earliest.
Yours Faithfully,
Himanshi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points in the task: you explain your language skills and childcare experience, offer help with activities, and give a reason for wanting the position. The details about speaking Gujarati, Hindi and English and having worked in childcare make your suitability relevant. The letter is also appropriately framed as an application. However, some points are less fully developed: “outdoor activities” is followed by shopping, which is not usually an outdoor activity, and the help you could offer the family is limited to shopping and taking the children to the park. Your reason for applying focuses on settling and earning, but could be made more persuasive by explaining your interest in teaching Gujarati or working with children. More specific support would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the purpose, then covers your suitability, additional help and motivation, before closing politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these separate points, and connectors such as “In addition,” “Moreover” and “Apart from this” show how ideas relate. This gives the response a coherent progression. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, with several transitions introducing each new point rather than showing a more precise relationship. The sentence beginning “As you want me to teach…” is also difficult to follow because its ideas are crowded together. A clearer sequence within that paragraph, and more direct links between your experience and the children’s needs, would make cohesion more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including relevant terms such as “tutor,” “translate,” “child care” and “migration.” The language is generally understandable, but the range is limited and some word choices or collocations sound unnatural. For example, “good fit at this position” and “child care home” do not express your meaning naturally; “suitable for this position” and “childcare centre” would be clearer. “Translate their English vocab” is also informal and imprecise for a job application. There are word-form and spelling issues, including “vocab” and “in to,” which reduce accuracy. Using more precise language for teaching experience and family support would help you express your ideas with greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “as” and “therefore,” and the overall meaning remains clear. However, some grammatical errors occur in basic structures and in longer sentences. For example, “I am communicate” should be “I communicate,” while “three languages which is” needs agreement and a clearer construction, such as “three languages: Hindi, Gujarati and English.” In “I am also living in Australia since 5 years,” the tense and time expression need correction: “I have lived in Australia for five years.” The sentence about translating English vocabulary into Gujarati also needs clearer clause structure. Practise accurate verb forms, agreement and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
