Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Simranjot and Jaspreet, I was going through a newspaper where I saw your advertisement to teach your kids punjabi language for 12 months. I can be a good fit for this because I have a deep knowledge about this language.
Firstly, I am born and brough up in Punjab. Before coming to Australia, I was teaching punjabi language to high school students. That's why I can help your children learning the language and they will be expert in it.
Another thing I can do is to provide demo classes to the kids. I will give three days trial classes to them if they really enjoy learning wiht me then you can hire me without any hesitation.
I hope you like my idea, I am looking for this job because last year I left my job to continue teaching profession and I think this could be a great start.
Thankyou.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain your Punjabi background and teaching experience, offer trial lessons, and give a reason for wanting the position. The details about growing up in Punjab and teaching high-school students make your suitability relevant and credible. This meets the task well, and the offer of a trial is a useful extra contribution. However, the family-support point is developed mainly as a way to demonstrate your teaching, rather than describing another practical way you could help the family. Your reason for applying—returning to the teaching profession—is also brief and could be connected more clearly to why this particular role appeals to you. Extending those two ideas would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the advertisement, explain your qualifications, describe an additional offer, and finish with your motivation. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these points, and markers such as “Firstly” and “Another thing” guide the reader. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the progression within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, “I hope you like my idea” refers rather vaguely to the trial classes, while the final sentence moves quickly from leaving your job to wanting this position. Use clearer references and connect each idea explicitly—for instance, explain how your previous teaching experience prepares you to support the children. A conventional closing would also make the letter feel more complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main message, with relevant terms such as “advertisement,” “trial classes,” and “high school students.” The reader can understand your experience and offer. However, several word choices and collocations are awkward or imprecise, including “deep knowledge about this language,” “good fit,” and “they will be expert in it.” There are also spelling and form errors, such as “brough,” “wiht,” and “Thankyou,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural phrases suited to a polite job enquiry, and check spelling carefully. A broader range of precise expressions would help you describe your teaching skills and motivation more convincingly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, and the main meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several grammatical errors in verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “I am born and brough up” needs a past participle construction, and “help your children learning” needs a different verb pattern. The sentence beginning “I will give three days trial classes” also needs clearer grammatical framing, while “last year I left my job to continue teaching profession” is missing necessary structure. Punctuation is sometimes weak, particularly where separate ideas are joined by commas. Practise accurate past and passive forms, verb patterns after “help,” and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at longer sentences.
