Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr and Mrs Collins,
I hope you both are doing well.I am writing you, regarding your advertisment about the need of an Urdu tutor for your children.
In my opinion, I can teach children Urdu very well, because I come from Pakistan and Urdu is native language there, which makes me fluent in this naturlly.Additionally, i have taught this language for many years to young children.
Other than that, i can offer flexible timing as well.I can give classes to children at the time which suits them the most.I can even come to your house to teach them. Moreover, i can make language interesting to learn for them by using different strategies.
The reason i want to take this job is that i really
love teaching children my language.Furthermore, i am a student and i can really make a good use of the money, i make from this job.
If you would like, we can meet in person to discuss your requirements regarding the job.I am looking forward for your answer.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain your suitability through fluency in Urdu and experience teaching children, offer flexible lesson times and home visits, and give personal reasons for applying. The purpose is clear and the tone is appropriately polite. The suitability point is the strongest because you provide two relevant reasons, while the additional help you could offer is less fully developed: “using different strategies” is vague, so a specific example, such as games or stories, would make this more convincing. Your reasons for wanting the role are relevant, though the financial motivation could be expressed more tactfully alongside your interest in teaching. The invitation to meet is a suitable closing detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs covering suitability and what else you can offer, then your motivation and a closing. This makes the message easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” to connect related points. At times, however, these links feel mechanical, and several ideas are joined in a list-like way rather than developed smoothly. For example, the paragraph about teaching combines flexible timing, home visits, and teaching strategies without explaining how these offers fit together. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer links between sentences, and ensure each paragraph has a focused progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, with relevant expressions such as “Urdu tutor,” “flexible timing,” and “teach children.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or spelling errors reduce accuracy and polish. “Make language interesting to learn” is understandable but not very natural; “make learning Urdu engaging” would be more idiomatic. There are also spelling errors in “advertisment” and “naturlly,” and “offer flexible timing” is less natural than “offer flexible lesson times.” Aim to use more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. These improvements would make the letter sound more fluent and professional without changing its clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and a conditional offer beginning “If you would like.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are noticeable. For example, “Urdu is native language” needs an article (“Urdu is a native language”), and “I am writing you, regarding” has an unnecessary comma and an incomplete pattern; write “I am writing regarding your advertisement.” The sentence about money also needs clearer clause structure: “I can make good use of the money I earn from this job.” Capitalise “I” consistently and leave spaces after full stops. Greater accuracy in these patterns would strengthen the letter.
