Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter in regards to the advertisement in The News Daily. You are looking for a tution teacher to teach your children Hindi for a year.
I will be the best fit for this job. I have a master's degree in Hindi language. Moreover, I have 3 years of teaching experience as I was a hindi professor in a school. I have been awarded with the 'Best Teacher of The Year' award for 3 years in a row.
Apart from this, I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics. I can also help your children with maths at no extra cost. Furthermore, I am a professional dog trainer and I can provide dog sitting services if required.
I recently took admission in a french course and it will start next year. I am currently living with my parents and both of them go for work everyday. Getting this job will keep me busy and help me earn some money to save.
Yours faithfully,
Tarunjeet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: your Hindi qualifications and teaching experience explain your suitability, you offer maths help and dog-sitting, and you give personal reasons for wanting the position. The specific details about your degree and teaching award make the application relevant. However, the reasons for wanting the job focus mainly on keeping busy and saving money, rather than explaining your interest in teaching the children or living with the family in Australia. The additional services are also listed briefly without explaining how they would benefit the family. The response covers the task, but developing these points more fully and presenting a more persuasive motivation would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the advertisement, explain your qualifications, offer additional help, and finish with your reasons for applying. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Apart from this,” and “Furthermore” help connect related points. Some connections feel mechanical, however, because several ideas are added through a sequence of linking phrases rather than developed into a flowing explanation. The final paragraph also moves quickly from your French course to your parents’ work schedules and your financial goal, so the relationship between these details and the job could be clearer. Use more natural transitions and connect each paragraph’s details explicitly to your application.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for a formal application and includes relevant terms such as “master’s degree,” “teaching experience,” “professional dog trainer,” and “dog sitting services.” These details communicate your qualifications and offers clearly. There are some inaccurate or less natural choices, including “tution teacher” and “in regards to,” while “I will be the best fit” sounds overly certain for an application. “Took admission in a french course” is also an awkward expression. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for standard collocations and a consistently professional tone, for example, describing yourself as a suitable candidate and saying that you enrolled in a French course.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause in “Getting this job will keep me busy and help me earn some money to save” and the conditional phrase “if required.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely interfere with the message. Some grammatical and punctuation control needs attention: “I am writing this letter in regards to the advertisement” has an awkward grammatical construction, and “I have been awarded with” uses an unnecessary preposition. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “hindi,” “french,” and “The Year.” To strengthen accuracy, check preposition patterns and proper-noun capitalisation, and vary sentence structures while keeping them controlled.
