Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

Recently I saw an advertisement where you mentioned that you are looking for a tutor for your children for a year and I am interested in this Job.

After read the commercial, I know that you are living in Australia and looking for a mentor who can teach your mother tongue to your children. I think that this job would perfectly suitable for me as I had an experience of teaching your native language at my local school. In addition, I have an Australian Visa and I am good in International language too.

Fortunately, I did a voluntry job as a care-taker. As I know, everyone busy in their office works so I would manage your children after their school time and would teach them your language in better way.

I truely need this job because I need money for my further academic studies. This job will enhance my experience which would help me in my future.

I would appreciate it if you could provide me a chance of taking this position.

I look forward to hearing rfom you.

Yours faithfully,

Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain your teaching experience, offer to care for the children after school, and give your reasons for wanting the position. The examples of teaching at a local school and volunteering as a caretaker make your suitability relevant. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For instance, “I am good in International language too” is unclear and does not explain how this would help the family, while your offer to manage the children could be made more specific. Your reasons—funding further studies and gaining experience—are clear but would benefit from a little explanation. A more direct opening and a specific example of how you would teach the children would make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your interest, explain your suitability, describe additional help, and then give your reasons and close politely. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “In addition” and “I look forward to hearing” help connect and frame the message. This meets the task clearly, though some links feel mechanical or do not express the relationship between ideas precisely. For example, “Fortunately” does not logically introduce your volunteer experience, and “As I know” is an awkward transition into your offer to help. The reference to “your native language” may also leave the reader unsure whose language you mean. Use more natural transitions and make references explicit to improve the flow further.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “tutor,” “voluntary job,” “academic studies,” and “position.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, but several choices or spellings are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “commercial” for an advertisement, “mentor” for a language teacher, and “good in International language.” “Care-taker” is understandable, though “childcare” or “caregiver” would be more natural in this context. Spelling slips such as “voluntry,” “truely,” and “rfom” are noticeable. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but more accurate collocations and careful proofreading would make your vocabulary more effective and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and longer structures, including a reason clause in “because I need money for my further academic studies” and a conditional-style polite request. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “After read the commercial” needs a gerund or a finite clause, and “this job would perfectly suitable” is missing “be.” In “I had an experience,” the article and tense do not fit the intended meaning; “I have experience” would be more natural. There are also issues with prepositions and sentence construction in “good in” and “everyone busy in their office works.” Review verb forms, articles, and preposition patterns, while continuing to practise varied sentence structures.
