Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear .............,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to let you know about i saw your advertisement to teach language to your childern.
I think i am suitable for this because i have experience of 10 years of language teaching. I can teach your childern according to your time whenever you have a time just tell me i will provide classes and important things classes will be provided online. For you i have promotional offer as you want to teach your two children, i will provide 2 months of education for free of cost. My fees is 100 dollar per month and per children you can pay money in installment or together. Don't be afraid if you want to ask some questions you can contact me. I need this job because currently i need money and i cannot do any other work due to my accident.
I hope a positive reply from you.
Warm Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the main purpose by applying for the teaching role, stating that you have ten years of teaching experience, and explaining that you want the job because you need money and cannot do other work after an accident. The offer of two free months and flexible lesson times adds relevant detail. However, the task also asks what else you could do for the family, and this is not answered; the response focuses almost entirely on online lessons and fees. Your reasons for wanting the job are also brief and personal rather than developed in relation to the family or teaching. To strengthen the letter, cover every bullet point explicitly and add a specific example of another way you could help the family.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter follows a recognisable format, with an opening, a main paragraph, and a closing, and the ideas about experience, scheduling, fees, and motivation are broadly grouped together. However, the main paragraph contains many different points in one block, so the reader has to work to distinguish your suitability from your offer and personal reasons. Connections between ideas are often abrupt, as in the shift from the free lessons to the fee details and then to your accident. Some linking phrases, such as “For you” and “I hope a positive reply,” are unclear or awkward. Use separate paragraphs for your qualifications, additional help and motivation, and connect each point with clear, natural transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the central message, including “experience,” “classes,” “promotional offer,” and “installment.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “teach language to your children” does not specify the language, while “provide 2 months of education for free of cost” is an awkward way to describe the offer. There are also noticeable spelling and form errors, including “childern” and “per children.” Aim for more precise, natural phrases suited to a polite application letter, and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your message is understandable, and you attempt to combine ideas using clauses, for example, “I need this job because currently I need money and I cannot do any other work due to my accident.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and attempts to join several points often produce faulty or confusing sentences. In “I am writing this letter to let you know about i saw your advertisement,” the clause structure is incorrect; “whenever you have a time just tell me i will provide classes” also needs clearer sentence boundaries and punctuation. Capitalisation and agreement errors recur, including lowercase “i” and “My fees is.” Practise accurate clause construction, sentence boundaries, and subject–verb agreement before adding more complex structures.
