Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing you to express my interest in an advertisement stating need for a teacher. In that pubilicity you mentioned that you belong to Pakistan and candidates who are Pakistanis will be preferred.

I consider myself most suitable person for this job. I am a Pakistani student currently doing Masters in Australia. Im living in a flat near your house about 3 kilometeres away. As a famale it would be the most safe job for me. I have some experience to teach pre-nursery students. After completing my postgraduate degree I worked in a school where I spent most of time teaching pre-nursery classes.

I am multi dimentional person. Besides teaching I can also help in household chores. Your Child will be comfortable with me as I can speak urdu as well as English. You can also hire me for Day care services.

I am definitely looking forward for a positive response. Currently I am facing a lot of financial and residential problems. Your kindness will lessen my family burden. I will be able to address my financial problems in a safe environment. I have to pay my semester fee and need books and material for my research study.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Yours Sincerely.

Madiha Iqbal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address all three requested points: you explain your teaching experience, offer help with household chores and childcare, and give reasons for wanting the position. Details such as having taught pre-nursery classes and needing to meet study costs make the letter relevant. However, some points are not fully developed or are unclear. For example, “as a famale it would be the most safe job for me” does not explain why your gender makes you suitable, and the reference to the couple belonging to Pakistan is confusing because the prompt says they live in Australia. Explain more directly how your Urdu and English, teaching experience, and familiarity with children would benefit this particular family. A clearer, more consistently appropriate tone would also strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your interest, describe your suitability, offer additional help, and explain your motivation. Separate paragraphs make these stages easy to identify, and phrases such as “Besides teaching” help signal a shift in topic. Some connections between ideas are less smooth, however. The opening reference to the couple being Pakistani is not clearly linked to the job requirements, while the paragraph about financial difficulties moves quickly from wanting the job to personal hardship. The closing also feels abrupt after the detailed explanation. Use clearer links to show how each detail supports your application, and finish with a conventional, concise closing sentence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “postgraduate degree,” “pre-nursery classes,” “household chores,” and “research study,” which helps communicate your background and offers. However, several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing awkward: “pubilicity,” “dimentional,” and “residential problems” are examples. Some expressions are also unnatural for a formal application, such as “I am multi dimentional person” and “Your kindness will lessen my family burden.” Choose precise, conventional language for describing your skills and motivation, and check spelling carefully. More natural collocations would make the letter sound more confident and professional while preserving its personal details.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate through a mixture of short statements and longer sentences, and most of the main ideas remain understandable. There are, however, some recurring errors in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and punctuation. For example, “I am writing you to express” needs a preposition after “writing,” and “I consider myself most suitable person” is missing an article. “Im living in a flat near your house about 3 kilometeres away” combines ideas without a clear grammatical link, while “Your Child” has inconsistent capitalisation. Review article use and sentence boundaries, and proofread contractions and punctuation. More accurate control of these patterns would make the application easier to read.
