Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam,
I am writing to request you to give me an opportunity to teach a Punjabi language to your kids. I knew from the advertisement that you need a teacher who is expert in punjabi as you are Indian.
I think that I am capable for this job because I have an experience and also I give some punjabi classes to children. I have enough knowledge how to cooperate, teach and explain everything. So, I am suitable for this job.
Moreover, I live almost near to your house. It is beneficial for me and you as well because if you are busy in work, then I can do some activities with children such as playing with blocks, painting and so on. With this, you can work easily without any stress. Also, I can help you in household chores if you need.
I love to work with children. I am a daycare assistant and I have a keen interest in children activities like art and craft, drawing, telling stories. Due to these, I would like to do this job.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Ramandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain your teaching experience, offer childcare activities and help with household chores, and give your interest in working with children as a reason for applying. The examples of “playing with blocks, painting” and “telling stories” make the additional help relevant and concrete. Your suitability is also supported by your daycare role and experience giving Punjabi classes. Some points, however, are asserted rather than fully developed: for example, “I have enough knowledge how to cooperate, teach and explain everything” does not specify how your teaching experience would benefit these particular children. The claim that the couple is Indian is also an assumption. More tailored detail about your teaching approach and motivation would make the letter more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your purpose, explain your suitability, describe other help you can offer, and then give your motivation before closing politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these distinct points, and transitions such as “Moreover,” “Also,” and “Due to these” signal connections between ideas. The progression is generally easy to understand, though some linking is mechanical, and “Due to these” does not clearly refer to a specific reason. The second paragraph also repeats the conclusion that you are suitable after listing your experience. To strengthen cohesion, connect each example more directly to the point it supports and use a wider variety of natural transitions and references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “daycare assistant,” “household chores,” and “keen interest.” The examples of children’s activities also give the letter useful specificity. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural or imprecise, such as “give me an opportunity,” “capable for this job,” “children activities,” and “work easily without any stress.” “Punjabi” is also inconsistently capitalised. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit the naturalness and precision of the letter. Aim to learn common phrases for applications and childcare, and check spelling and capitalisation consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You communicate through a mix of short statements and longer sentences, including conditional and reason clauses, as in “if you are busy at work, then I can do some activities with children.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I knew from the advertisement” uses an unsuitable tense for information you learned, and “I have enough knowledge how to cooperate” is missing a grammatical link before the clause. There are also article and preposition problems in “teach a Punjabi language” and “live almost near to your house.” Work on article use, verb tense, and the patterns that follow nouns such as “knowledge”; proofreading these areas would improve accuracy while preserving your range of sentence forms.
