Dear .................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter in regard to the advertisement to teach english to your children.

I am pleased to inform you that I have just finished my masters in English language from the university of Sydney with flying colors. So, I believe I can be a perfect fit your kids to teach the language I am passionate about.

As I am planning to go for my Doctorate degree in the upcoming fall, I am free until then. I can come for personal one on one coachings at your place and can also tutor them online and that too with a great flexibility of time. Additionally, if needed I can also help you in doing small chores like cutting the grass and running the small errands.

As mentioned earlier, I am applying for the PHD, I want to save some money for the tuition fee. Tutoring your children would let me stay connected to the language and will aide me to have some money saved for the future needs.

I hope to hear back from you soon.

Kind regards,

Anmol

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you explain your English-language background, offer tutoring in person or online and help with errands, and say that you want to save for doctoral tuition while staying connected to the language. These details make the letter relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your motivation. However, some points are not fully developed: for example, you could explain how your studies or experience would help you teach children, and specify what household help you could reliably provide. The opening and closing are polite, but “Dear Sir/Madam” is less personal than addressing the couple directly. More specific support for your suitability and a warmer, tailored tone would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the application, presents your qualifications, describes additional help, explains your motivation, and closes appropriately. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “Additionally” and “As mentioned earlier” help connect ideas. The sequence is generally easy to follow, though some linking is a little mechanical, and “As mentioned earlier” does not add much because the previous paragraph focuses mainly on availability and services. The sentence about being free until autumn also sits somewhat separately from the explanation of your teaching suitability. To make the progression more natural, group related details more tightly and use references that clearly connect each paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range for a formal application, including phrases such as “personal one on one coachings,” “great flexibility of time,” and “tuition fee.” The meaning remains clear, and you attempt some less common expressions, such as “with flying colors.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this context: “coachings” is not the usual noun here, “perfect fit your kids” is missing a natural construction, and “aide me to have some money saved” is awkward. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “english” and “PHD.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and a consistently professional register; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional phrase “if needed” and the time clause “As I am planning to go for my Doctorate degree.” Most of the message is understandable, and errors rarely prevent communication. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. In “I can be a perfect fit your kids,” the construction needs “for” before “your kids”; “I am free until then” could be more clearly linked to the planned start date; and “I want to save some money” shifts from the earlier “I am applying” without a clear time relationship. Review prepositions and sentence connections, and check punctuation in longer sentences. Greater consistency and accuracy across these structures would improve control.
