Student answer (Band 4.5)
Dear couple,
A-O-A! I hope you are doing well. I came to know that you want a teacher to teach your two children our language for a year. I want this job as I think that I am suitable for this job because I have already teaches many students before and now they became professional to speak language. I have got positive feedback from them. So, now I think I am also become professional in this job. I want this job because I think from this job I can help my neighbours who are facing a disease of cancer. From this I could take him to hospital and give him treatment from a professional hospital though which he will live a happy and beautiful life. As we know that we should take care of neighbours through which we can live a amazing life.
I will be very thankful to you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The letter makes an attempt to explain your suitability and reasons for applying: you mention having taught students and wanting to help neighbours affected by cancer. However, the response only minimally fulfils the task because it does not explain what else you could do for the family, and the reason about helping neighbours is not clearly connected to taking this job in Australia. Your teaching experience is also asserted rather than supported with relevant detail, such as how you teach or what results the children could expect. The opening and closing are present, but the recipient is not addressed naturally. To strengthen the response, cover all three bullet points directly and make each reason relevant to the couple and their children.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic sequence: you introduce the teaching opportunity, describe your experience, give a reason for wanting the job, and close the letter. The use of “because,” “So,” and “As we know” shows an attempt to connect ideas. However, the letter has no clear paragraphing, and the shift from teaching experience to a neighbour’s cancer treatment is abrupt and makes the central purpose difficult to follow. Several ideas are joined in long sentences, while “From this” is repeated without a clear reference. Organise the letter into short paragraphs for suitability, additional help, and motivation, and use linking phrases that make the relationship between each point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “teacher,” “positive feedback,” “professional,” and “treatment.” There is some attempt to use a more formal tone, but the range is limited and several choices are unnatural or imprecise. For example, “professional to speak language” does not clearly describe the students’ progress, and “a disease of cancer” is an awkward way to refer to cancer. “A amazing life” also contains an article error, while “A-O-A!” is not an appropriate greeting for this formal letter. Choose precise expressions connected to teaching and family support, and use conventional letter language such as “Dear Sir or Madam” or the couple’s names if known.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple sentences and attempts to link clauses with “because” and “through which,” but the range of sentence structures is limited and errors occur frequently. Examples include “I have already teaches,” where the verb form should be “taught,” and “now I think I am also become professional,” which has an incorrect verb construction. There are also problems with agreement and articles, as in “help my neighbours who are facing a disease” and “a amazing life.” Some sentences are long and difficult to control, particularly the sentence about taking a neighbour to hospital. Practise accurate past and present forms, articles, and shorter complex sentences so your meaning remains clear.
