Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Ema,

I hope you are doing well. Yesterday, I saw your advertisement on Facebook regarding the requirement of a teacher for your both children. Well, I am interested for this job because I have an experience of teaching. Following this, I will use the different methods and techniques so that they can learn my language within a year.

Moreover, I will connect them with my native food, clothes and style so that children can grab in-depth knowledge related to our culture. It would be a easy way to get the results in a short period. Apart from this, I love to spend my free time with kids so this is a golden opportunity for me to spend time with them. Futhermore, I just completed my studies and got work permit and i am looking for job. I think this job is perfectly match with my work experience. I also attached my CV for your reference.

Looking for a positive response.

Thanks,

Alia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain your teaching experience and methods, offer to introduce the children to your culture, and give personal and employment-related reasons for applying. The letter is relevant and the reader can understand your interest. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, “I have an experience of teaching” does not say what you taught or how that experience would help these particular children, while the cultural activities are mentioned broadly rather than illustrated with a specific example. Your reasons for wanting the job are clearer, but could be linked more directly to the family’s needs. Adding a brief detail about your teaching background and a practical contribution to family life would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The ideas are arranged in a generally coherent order: you introduce the advertisement, explain your suitability, describe what you could offer, and then give reasons for applying. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Apart from this,” and “Furthermore” help signal these shifts. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical, and several different ideas are crowded into one paragraph. The reference in “It would be an easy way to get the results” is not fully clear, as the reader must infer whether “it” means learning about the culture or learning the language. Grouping your teaching qualifications, family contribution, and motivation into clearer sections, and making references explicit, would improve progression and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “methods and techniques,” “in-depth knowledge,” and “work permit.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, but some word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “requirement of a teacher,” “connect them with my native food,” and “grab in-depth knowledge.” “Golden opportunity” is understandable but sounds rather formulaic in this context. Spelling slips such as “Futhermore” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural phrases that describe the role directly—for example, teaching the children about your culture or helping with everyday activities—and check spelling before submitting. This would make your vocabulary more precise and appropriate for a formal application letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including purpose clauses with “so that” and a reason clause with “because.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “your both children” (use “both your children”), “I am interested for this job” (the preposition pattern is “interested in”), and “It would be a easy way” (the article should be “an”). The sentence “I think this job is perfectly match with my work experience” also has an incorrect verb construction; use “is a perfect match” or “matches my experience.” Capitalise “I” consistently, and use a more suitable closing sentence. Greater control of articles, prepositions, and verb forms would strengthen accuracy.
