Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Andy & Ana,

I am writing in response to your advertisement on language coaching for your two children. Since I live in Australia, I can teach them a gujarati language personally.

Firstly, as I mentioned before that I live in the same region that would be convenient for your kids to learn a language in-person rather than spending more time on the screen. In addition, I have a five years of experience for teaching young students, therefore I am aware about some easy techniques for coaching. In my opinion, these qualities would be suitable for this position.

Secondly, I have also attended cooking classes and revceived a certificate in home cooked food. Thus, I can also help you in cooking meals for your family, especially for your kids. In addition, If you will hire me, my multi-talented skills would save your large amount of time.

Thirdly, I am planning to study one of the management programes and it is an expensive course for me. Hence, I am looking for a part time job, which would help me to save more money for that particular programe. I would really appreciate your coopertaion and support. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Krupali Parmar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain your teaching experience, offer help with cooking, and give your financial reason for seeking the job. The details about five years of teaching and your management course make the letter relevant, and the purpose is clear throughout. The suitability point is the strongest, although the claim that you live in the same region is confusing because the advertisement says the couple live in Australia and you also say you do. Your offer to cook is useful but could be developed with a specific example of how you would help the family. To strengthen the response further, clarify your location and explain more directly how your teaching experience would benefit these particular children.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure, with separate paragraphs for your suitability, additional help, and reasons for wanting the position. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Thirdly” make the progression easy to follow, and the opening and closing are appropriate. However, these transitions feel somewhat mechanical, and some links between ideas are not fully clear. For example, “as I mentioned before” refers to information not previously given, while “Since I live in Australia” is followed by a point about living in the same region without explaining the connection. Use more natural links and clearer references, and let each paragraph develop its main point rather than relying mainly on numbered transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “advertisement,” “experience,” “techniques,” and “management programme.” The reader can understand your main points, and phrases such as “part time job” and “cooking meals” suit the context. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices and spelling errors, including “language coaching,” “revceived,” “programes,” and “coopertaion.” “Save your large amount of time” is also an awkward collocation. These slips do not prevent communication, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and choose more idiomatic phrases, such as “teach Gujarati” and “save you a considerable amount of time.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “Since,” “therefore,” and “which,” so the letter is not limited to short basic sentences. The main message remains clear despite some grammatical errors. For example, “as I mentioned before that I live” has an unnecessary “that,” and “I have a five years of experience” has an incorrect article and noun construction. The conditional “If you will hire me” also needs a different verb form, while “I am aware about” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. Aim to make these structures more accurate and vary sentence openings without combining clauses awkwardly. Proofreading for articles, verb forms, and sentence construction would improve control.
