Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Williams,

I am writing with regard to the job advertisement for language teacher. I am interested to teach the children for a year. My name is John. Currently, I am working as an english teacher. I can teach five different languages which includes russian, french, spanish, english and hindi.

I am in this field since 3 years. I am running classes successfully without any issues or complaints. I think, I am perfect for your children to teach french. My teaching techniques are not only unique but also joyful.

Furthermore, I can offer 1 week free trial for the family to understand the level of my teaching skills. As long as childrens are learning french, one of the parents is offered to learn any language they are interested in.

Lastly, I have two vacancies in to fill with in french language. As soon as they are filled I can start the batch. So, I request you to consider me for your children. Please let me know in case you need additional information. I am waiting for your response.

yours faithfully,

John.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the main purpose of the letter and give relevant information about your teaching experience, the languages you can teach, and the free trial and offer to teach a parent. However, the reasons for wanting the job are not clearly explained: “I am interested to teach the children for a year” states interest but does not say why you want this opportunity. The offer to teach French also needs to be reconciled with the advertisement’s request to teach the couple’s language, which is not identified in your letter. Your suitability is supported by three years’ experience and positive claims about your classes, but these claims would be stronger with a specific example of your teaching success. Develop these points and make the family’s needs central.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally clear sequence: you introduce your interest and qualifications, describe additional services, and close with a request for a response. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “Furthermore” and “Lastly” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are less clear, however. “As long as childrens are learning french” does not clearly explain how the parent’s lessons relate to the children’s, and the final paragraph shifts abruptly to vacancies and starting a batch. The repeated use of “I” and formulaic transitions also makes the letter feel somewhat mechanical. Link each offer directly to the family’s needs and use clearer references to keep the ideas connected.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “language teacher,” “teaching techniques,” “free trial,” and “additional information.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “successfully without any issues or complaints,” although this is not a natural way to describe teaching experience. Several word choices and collocations are awkward or unclear, including “interested to teach,” “two vacancies in to fill with in french language,” and “start the batch.” Capitalisation is inconsistent for language names, and “childrens” is incorrectly formed. These choices sometimes make the intended offer difficult to understand. Aim for natural phrases such as “interested in teaching,” “two available places,” and “begin lessons,” and check spelling and capitalisation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate through mostly simple sentences and make some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “My teaching techniques are not only unique but also joyful.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. “I am in this field since 3 years” uses an unsuitable tense and time expression; use the present perfect with “for three years.” In “languages which includes,” the verb does not agree with the plural noun, and “one of the parents is offered to learn” has an incorrect passive construction. There are also article and punctuation issues, such as “for language teacher” and the comma after “I think.” Practise accurate present-perfect forms, agreement, and sentence patterns for making offers.
