Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sam and Sara,

I am writing to express my interest in working as an english tutor to your children for one year. I have noticed the advertisement in your facebook page.

I have studied communicative english from the Oxford University,UK. Following this, I have two years of experience in working as a teacher and good communication skills. Also, I have certification in good teaching as well.

Besides this, I got six months of training in Personal Support Worker Programme. Likewise, I can manage the childcare and household works in your home. I am punctual, reliable and a confident person for taking tasks on time.

I am planning to move canada for my job requirements. Thus I need an experience for one year for my visa processing. Moreover, I like to transfer knowledge to people,if they need them.

I kindly request you to consider my application. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards

Sree

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain your teaching background, offer childcare and household help, and give reasons for wanting the position. The details about two years of teaching experience and six months of personal-support training make your suitability relevant, while your wish to gain experience for visa processing explains your motivation. The letter also uses an appropriate opening and closing. However, some points are only briefly stated: “good teaching” certification is not explained, and the household support you could provide is not illustrated with specific tasks. The reason for wanting this particular role could also be linked more clearly to teaching your language to the children. More development of these details would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces your application, presents your qualifications, describes additional help, and then explains your motivation before closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Following this,” “Besides this,” and “Moreover” help connect ideas. The sequence is generally easy to follow, though some transitions feel mechanical, and the relationship between moving to Canada and applying for a year-long job in Australia is not made clear. A few sentences also place several claims together without showing how they relate. Use more natural links and clarify the connection between your plans and the position so the progression feels more consistently logical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, with relevant terms such as “communicative,” “reliable,” “childcare,” and “visa processing.” You also attempt some less common expressions, but several choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “studied communicative english,” “certification in good teaching,” and “household works.” Capitalisation and spelling conventions also need attention in “english,” “facebook,” and “canada.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your purpose, but they make parts of the letter sound less natural and precise. Choose established phrases for qualifications and domestic duties, and check proper nouns and language names before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use mostly straightforward sentence patterns and attempt some longer structures, for example, “Following this, I have two years of experience…” and “I am planning to move… Thus I need…”. The main message remains understandable, but there are some errors in sentence construction and punctuation. In “I am planning to move canada for my job requirements,” the verb pattern and article/preposition use need correction; “I am planning to move to Canada for work” would be clearer. There are also missing spaces after commas and full stops, and the sentence beginning “Thus” is awkwardly joined to the preceding idea. Practise combining clauses accurately and proofread punctuation to improve control.
