Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs. Sandhu,
I am writing to express my interest in teaching your children the local language as you mentioned it in the advertisement.
I would like to inform you that I was born in Australia, and I am familiar with the native language since my childhood. I believe that learning a new language from a local person has its own merits. Moreover, I have experience in teaching for 10 years, and I have done course in Early childhood education.
After teaching your children, I can do light household chores for children including bathing them, meal prep and light cleaning of house. I can cook food for the family if it is required. I love to play with children and I believe learning can be done in the form of playing also.
I have completed my studies recently, and now I want to gain valuable experience with the children. Additionaly, I have to collect money for my higher studies as I am planning to complete Masters from university.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Amandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain your teaching background and early-childhood training, offer childcare and household help, and give reasons for wanting the position. The details about ten years of teaching and saving for a master’s degree make your purpose clear. This meets the task well, but the suitability point could be developed more specifically: explain how your teaching experience or training would help these particular children learn your language. The offer to help the family is relevant, though “light household chores for children” is unclear about which duties you mean. A little more explanation of your approach to teaching through play would also make the ideas more fully supported and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your interest, describe your qualifications, offer additional help, and explain your motivation before closing appropriately. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “After teaching your children,” and “Additionaly” help connect the points. The overall organisation is easy to follow. To make the flow more natural, avoid relying on explicit transitions where the relationship is already clear, and connect related ideas more smoothly within paragraphs. For example, your teaching experience and early-childhood course could be linked directly to your proposed playful teaching approach. The reference to “children” in the household-help paragraph could also be made more precise so readers can immediately see what the duties involve.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the letter and includes relevant terms such as “Early childhood education,” “household chores,” and “higher studies.” The meaning is generally clear, but some word choices and collocations are awkward or imprecise, which limits the naturalness and flexibility of the language. For instance, “the local language” does not clearly identify whose language you would teach, and “light household chores for children” is not an idiomatic way to describe childcare tasks. There is also a spelling error in “Additionaly.” Choose more precise expressions for your language background, duties, and study plans, and check spelling carefully. These changes would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “I believe that learning a new language from a local person has its own merits” and the sentence explaining your plans for further study. Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and errors do not generally obstruct understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. In “I have done course,” the article is missing; “I have completed my studies recently” uses an awkward tense pattern; and “complete Masters from university” needs more accurate article and noun phrasing. The sentence beginning “After teaching your children” also has an unclear grammatical connection to the household duties that follow. Review articles, tense choices, and sentence construction, while continuing to use varied sentence patterns.
