Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter regarding to seek language teacher job mentioned in newspaper advertisement. I have been teaching Hindi literature from past 5 years in Sydney First Student School age 4 to 7 years. Therefore, I have a keen experience of handling and teaching young students.

Furthermore, before starting teaching profession I had worked part time as chef in Indian restaurant while completing my higher studies and know almost all the vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Hence, I will be happy to help in cooking Indian meals for your family along with teaching your children.

Actually, I have been moving to Melbourne University for Dean profile which will starts from next month and I will have sufficient time after 1 pm so, to pass this time and earn some bucks I will prefer to work in same job profile.

I hope you will consider my application for the above role.

Yours sincerely,

Rahul Kumar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address all three requested points: you describe five years of teaching Hindi to young children, offer to cook Indian meals, and explain that the role would fit around your university position. These details make your application relevant. However, the reasons for wanting the job are only briefly explained: “to pass this time and earn some bucks” gives a practical motive but does not show much interest in teaching the children or sharing your language and culture. The suitability claim would also be stronger with a specific example of how you teach or engage young learners. Develop these points and make your motivation more persuasive and professional.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: teaching experience, additional help for the family, your availability and motivation, then a closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these points, and connectors such as “Furthermore” and “Hence” make relationships between ideas visible. This is a coherent arrangement. To make the progression more natural and less dependent on explicit linking words, connect the ideas more smoothly within paragraphs and clarify the timeline in the university paragraph. For example, the move to Melbourne and the start of the Dean role are compressed into one sentence, so the reader has to work out how your availability relates to the job. A more conventional application-letter structure would also improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the task, including “teaching,” “young students,” “vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes,” and “application.” These choices communicate your experience and the extra help you can offer. However, several phrases are noticeably inaccurate or too informal for a job application, such as “regarding to seek,” “keen experience,” “Dean profile,” and “earn some bucks.” Some collocations make the message less natural, even though the main meaning is generally understandable. Aim for precise, professional expressions and check how words combine—for instance, describe your experience as substantial and say that you are applying for a teaching position rather than a “job profile.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason-result structure with “Therefore” and a sentence beginning “while completing my higher studies.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence construction and verb forms are frequent enough to affect clarity. Examples include “I am writing this letter regarding to seek,” “from past 5 years,” and “which will starts from next month.” The long sentence about moving to Melbourne also joins several ideas without clear punctuation, making the timing difficult to follow. Practise accurate verb patterns and tense agreement, and divide long sentences into shorter units. For example, use a clear future form for the new role and state separately when you will be available.
