Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr and Mrs James,

I am writing to express interest on the advertisement about the home spannish tutoring job displayed on the internet.

I believe my academic profile fits the job discriptions because I graduated with a degree in spannish linguistics at the university of Hepindale in the year 2015. Furthermore, I have three years of spannish teaching experience at thesame university and a good history of home lesson as well.

In addition, I would like to extend my services by enrolling the two kids in an upcoming spannish test entry level competition, which will be heard at the community event center. I will take a full financial responsibity for that was well.

The reason while I wanted this job is because I have a free time in the evenning which I want to make constructive and use, instead of staying at home doing nothing.Moreso, I am been lonely presently, I think by interacting with the children, it will be a nice way to socialize.

I look forward to your prompt response.

Yours sincerely,

Egbodo Victor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain your Spanish degree and teaching experience, offer to take the children to a competition and cover the cost, and give personal reasons for wanting the position. These details make the letter relevant and give the couple a clear sense of your background. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, you mention a “good history of home lesson” without explaining what that experience involved, and the competition offer could be clearer about how it would benefit the children. Your reasons for applying focus mainly on having free time and feeling lonely, which may not reassure the family about your motivation. Emphasise your interest in teaching and supporting the children’s learning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce your application, describe your qualifications, add an extra service, explain your motivation, and close politely. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these points, and connectors such as “Furthermore” and “In addition” make the relationships between ideas clear. The sequence is logical and the purpose remains easy to follow. To make the organisation more polished, use transitions that show the specific relationship between ideas rather than relying on a list-like pattern. The final paragraph also combines two motivations—free time and loneliness—without a clear link to your suitability for the family. A more focused closing paragraph would strengthen the progression and leave a more professional impression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the task, including “academic profile,” “teaching experience,” “financial responsibility,” and “interacting with the children.” This gives you enough range to communicate your main points. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy and naturalness: “spannish” is repeated, “job discriptions” is misspelled, and “home lesson” is not a natural phrase in this context. Some expressions are also awkward, such as “the advertisement about” and “a good history of.” Choose conventional collocations and proofread repeated key words carefully. More precise language for your teaching background and motivation would make the letter sound more confident and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause beginning “because” and the relative clause in “which will be heard at the community event center.” Most of your meaning is understandable, and the letter’s basic sentence structure is clear. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “The reason while I wanted this job is because” has an incorrect clause structure and inconsistent tense; “I am been lonely presently” also uses an incorrect verb form. In “I have a free time,” the article is unnecessary, while “I will take a full financial responsibility for that was well” contains errors in article use and sentence construction. Review verb forms, articles, and punctuation, especially where you join ideas.
