Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I have seen an advertisement, you are looking for some tutor to teach your children urdu language for a year. I am very pleased to know that you wanted from your children to learn this language. I am speaking this language since birth. Consequently, I have better grip on it. Furthermore, I have enough grammatical skills.
I can teach them as well as look after them too. As you both are working and you will definitely be looking for someone who look after them. I can manage this task along with teaching quite easily. I can provide them guidance regarding their academic tasks too.
I am doing PhD in chemistry here. Nevertheless, I am looking for a part-time job to manage my expenses. If you look into my request for this job i will be surely very thankful to you.
Yours sincerely,
X.Y.Z.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain your suitability through being a native Urdu speaker and having grammatical knowledge, offer childcare and help with academic tasks, and give your reason of needing part-time work to manage expenses. These details make the letter relevant and its purpose clear. The suitability and extra-help points are more fully covered than your motivation, which is stated briefly and focuses mainly on your finances; you could also explain why teaching the children or living and working with the family appeals to you. The request for the job is understandable, though a more confident, direct closing would strengthen the overall impression.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your interest and qualifications, then describe other help you can offer, and finish with your reason for applying. Paragraphing supports this progression, and connectors such as “Furthermore,” “Consequently,” and “Nevertheless” help signal relationships between ideas. Some links feel mechanical or do not express the intended relationship clearly: “Nevertheless” does not naturally contrast your PhD studies with seeking work, and “As you both are working” is not smoothly connected to the following sentence. The opening also joins two ideas with a comma. More natural transitions and clearer sentence-to-sentence links would make the organisation feel more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, with relevant terms such as “grammatical skills,” “look after them,” “academic tasks,” and “part-time job.” However, several choices or combinations are unnatural and reduce precision: “better grip on it,” “wanted from your children to learn,” and “look into my request” do not fit this context idiomatically. “Some tutor” is also an imprecise way to describe the advertised role. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your application, but the range is fairly familiar and some phrasing sounds translated. Aim for natural collocations used in formal applications, such as “strong command of Urdu” and “consider my application.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including “I can teach them as well as look after them too” and the sentence explaining how you could combine childcare with teaching. The main message remains clear, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “I am speaking this language since birth” needs a present perfect form, while “someone who look after them” requires subject–verb agreement. The opening comma splice in “I have seen an advertisement, you are looking…” should be corrected by using a full stop or a suitable conjunction. Capitalisation in “i will” and punctuation around the closing also need attention. Greater control of verb forms and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
