Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir and Madam,

Hope you and your family are doing well. I am writing this letter to show my interest in the position, having seen the advertisement regarding your enquiry for a person to teach two children a language for a year. My name is Annabelle Declas, i was a teacher in ABC elementary school kindergarten and grade 3 and 4 for 8 years, now i have taken a break from that job and was remotely teaching kids around to gain new ways of experiences in teaching while learning something of my interest as a part time.

The house that i own in mandalorin st, has a beautiful garden which has a high quantity of flowers and fruits and vegetables as well. So after the study session for children i can help you with gardening, if you are looking for one.

I have had so many children who are now going to high school who are very thankful for my role in their life. I make study more enjoyable to games and by providing small tricks to make learning easier and fun. If required i can give a demo session of 30 mins first and if the children liked it only proceed with the classes.

I hope i was able to provide the required information to you. I can bring my course completion and previous employer letters to show as proof. Waiting to hear from your side.

Yours Sincerely,

Annabelle Declas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the main requirements by explaining your teaching background, offering gardening help, and showing interest in the position. Your eight years of experience with young pupils and your use of games and learning tricks are relevant reasons to consider you. However, the reasons for wanting the job are not clearly stated: “learning something of my interest” is vague, and the letter does not explain why teaching the couple’s children in Australia appeals to you. The gardening offer is specific, but the other possible support you could provide is not explored. Develop these points more directly and make clear how your experience suits teaching your language to these particular children.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally clear sequence: you introduce your application, describe your experience, offer help with gardening, and close with supporting documents. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and the reader can follow the overall message. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. The opening sentence beginning “Hope you and your family…” is followed by a long, crowded sentence combining your name, work history, career break, and current teaching. The paragraph about your former pupils also shifts from evidence of your teaching ability to a proposed demo without a clear transition. Use shorter, more focused sentences and connect each paragraph explicitly to the job requirements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for a personal application, including “position,” “advertisement,” “study session,” and “course completion.” These choices make the purpose understandable, and phrases such as “make learning easier and fun” communicate your teaching approach. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “gain new ways of experiences,” “a high quantity of flowers,” and “Waiting to hear from your side.” There are also spelling and capitalization slips, including “i” and “mandalorin.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, especially when explaining your motivation and experience; this will make the letter sound more fluent and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example the sentence beginning “having seen the advertisement” and the conditional “if you are looking for one.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors remain. “Hope you and your family are doing well” lacks a subject in this formal letter, while “My name is Annabelle Declas, i was a teacher” joins two independent clauses with a comma. Tense and phrasing are also unclear in “now i have taken a break … and was remotely teaching.” Capitalise “I” consistently, and check sentence boundaries, verb tense, and articles. More accurate control of these forms would make your application easier to read.
