Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in working as an English tutor for teaching your children for an year. I have noticed the advertisement that you have posted on the social media.
I have completed my degree in Communicative english. Following this, I have acquired two years of work experience as an English teacher.
Moreover, I have got a six-month PSW training from Alberta Health Institute. Likewise, I know how to care people and deal with them. Therefore, I could provide some basic care for your children such as cleaning their surroundings and ironing their clothes.
I am planning to move to Canada, and my agency adviced me to get a one year experience from any employer or family related to teaching.
I kindly request you to consider my application and give me a positive feedback. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Sree

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the three requested points: your English-teaching qualifications and experience, the additional help you could offer, and your reason for applying. The details about your degree, two years of teaching, and care training make the application relevant. However, the reason for wanting the job is not fully convincing or clearly connected to the family: you say your agency advised you to gain experience, but do not explain why you personally want to teach these children or what you hope to contribute. The care duties are also quite specific, while your suitability as a language teacher could be explained further—for example, by describing how you would make lessons engaging. Develop these points and make the purpose of the letter more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your application, present your teaching background, describe other help you can offer, and explain your reason for applying before closing politely. Paragraph breaks help the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Likewise,” and “Therefore” make relationships between ideas visible. This is a coherent structure, though some links feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely; for instance, “Likewise” does not clearly connect your care training to your ability to care for children. The progression would be stronger if you grouped related qualifications and explained how each supports your suitability, then connected your motivation directly to the family’s needs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including relevant terms such as “English teacher,” “work experience,” “basic care,” and “application.” The language is generally understandable, but several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. For example, “for teaching your children” is awkward in this context, “care people” is not the natural expression, and “give me a positive feedback” is an unsuitable collocation. There is also inconsistent capitalization in “Communicative english” and a spelling error in “adviced.” Aim for more natural application-letter phrasing and check spelling and word forms carefully; this would make your meaning smoother and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some more developed structures, such as “I am writing to express my interest…” and “Therefore, I could provide…” Most sentences communicate their meaning, and the letter’s basic sentence patterns are generally controlled. However, some grammatical errors remain, including the article in “an year” and the construction “I know how to care people,” which needs a different grammatical pattern. The sentence about moving to Canada and gaining experience is also somewhat awkwardly structured, making the relationship between your plans and the job less clear. Work on articles, verb patterns after “know how,” and sentence construction. More accurate control of these forms would strengthen the letter while preserving its clear basic structure.
