Student answer (Band 7.0)

Due to the advancements in technology, rapid increase has been witnessed in the sales and usage of technical devices. Payment modes are changing from cash payments to apple pay or e-payments globally. There are several benefits of this shifts which outweigh its drawbacks.

First compelling advantage is that this mode of payment is significantly effective and convenient. As paying through mobiles has eliminated the need to carry cash while buying which leads to several issues such as time consuming. For instance, in countries like Canada where individuals prefer making electronic payments, Banks and ATM's are frequently less crowded as compared to other countries like India where the cash is excessively used to make daily payments.

Another advantageous factor is that this shift is likely to be less risked by the thieves. Whereas, carrying cash can lead to unexpected robberies or loss of billets which can raise financial issues among families. Additionally, since paying electronically by mobile application saves the information of buyer, it can assist in the process of return or exchange which can be easily verified through the recent purchase history from the application.

In conclusion, Although there are undoubtedly some risks to use cellphones to make payments while buying, it provides myriad of pros which directly contributes to save time and energy of customers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The advantages and disadvantages are identified, and the argument that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks is supported with relevant examples, such as the comparison between Canada and India. However, some ideas could be developed further; for instance, the point about 'return or exchange' is a bit brief. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that all supporting points are fully explained rather than just mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the advantages from the disadvantages. Cohesive devices such as 'First compelling advantage', 'Another advantageous factor', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward transition in the second paragraph ('Whereas, carrying cash...'). Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'myriad' and 'excessively'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'less risked by the thieves' (should be 'less prone to theft') and 'loss of billets' (which is not standard English for wallets/cash). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'rapid increase has been witnessed' (passive voice usage is slightly awkward here), 'there are several benefits of this shifts' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'statics shows' (should be 'statistics show'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in article usage. The errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
