Student answer (Band 7.0)

With the advancement in information technology, It has become a common practice to pay for the purchases using the mobile payment apps, all around the world. In my perspective, this development has more benefits than drawbacks that are discussed as follows.

To begin with, using the enhanced paying apps has reduced the amount of carrying cash or cards. People can make the payment for the expenses by a single tap of their mobile phones. As a result, it has reduced the chances of losing money. For example, In many parts of the world, applications like google pay, google wallet or apple pay are being used that just need one tap for payment. It has made everyone's life easy as no one needs to care about caring cash or withdrawing money from the banks for any kind of expenses they incurred.

Additionally, Anyone can make the transaction while they are in any country of the world. To elaborate, The person travelling abroad do not needs to go for currency exchange because these applications allows them to pay in any nation. Eventually, this has put everyone's life at ease as no one has to worry about the currency or the currency rates. Furthermore, these apps are linked to the personal or business bank accounts. So, it also allows to access the whole statement of transactions that has been made for the various purchases. One do not need to go the banks for such things resulting in saving people's time.

In conclusion, there are a number of advantages of using paying apps such as carrying no cash or physical cards, no need for currency exchange in a foreign country and accessing the bank statements and transactions while sitting at home has made today's peoples life easy and time saving while proving the advancement in the payments for the expenses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating that the advantages of mobile payment apps outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, focusing on convenience, security, and global accessibility. However, the response could be improved by briefly acknowledging the potential drawbacks (such as technical failures or privacy concerns) to provide a more balanced and nuanced discussion, which is often expected for a higher band score. The position is consistent throughout, and the main points are supported with examples like Google Pay and Apple Pay, which helps in fulfilling the task requirements effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the use of some cohesive devices is slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence-level flow. For instance, the transition between the benefits of global transactions and bank statements could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some use of topic-specific vocabulary such as 'transaction', 'currency exchange', and 'bank statements'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'caring cash' instead of 'carrying cash' and 'incurred' used slightly awkwardly. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repetition of basic terms like 'easy' or 'paying'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that slightly impede the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The person travelling abroad do not needs') and incorrect preposition usage ('pay for the purchases'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after commas. While the student attempts complex sentences, the control over these structures is not yet consistent. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
