Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of paid mobile applications. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding 'earning opportunities' for IT graduates is relevant but could be more deeply explored. The example regarding Amazon is a bit confusing, as Amazon is primarily a retail platform rather than a subscription-based app model, which weakens the logical support for the disadvantage argument. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited, placing it in the Band 6 range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'Consequently' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the link between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is mostly accurate, though there are minor issues with article usage that occasionally affect the flow. The structure is sufficient to guide the reader through the argument without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'subscription', 'privacy', and 'E-commerce'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'visuals editing' instead of 'photo/video editing' and 'bear loss of breaking privacy' which is non-standard. The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but the lack of more sophisticated or precise lexical items prevents a higher score. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('student don't get job', 'Amazon offer paid policy') and article usage ('the' is often omitted or misused). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are inconsistent spaces before commas. Despite these errors, the meaning is rarely obscured, and the reader can follow the argument without significant effort. The control of grammar is consistent with a Band 6 level.
