Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of mobile payment apps. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the point about 'productive work' is mentioned but not explained in detail, and the argument regarding security is slightly repetitive. While the response covers all parts of the task, the supporting arguments lack depth and specific examples, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and summarizes points that were not fully explored in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the paradoxical side' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Moving ahead' or 'In the summation'. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed due to grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'plethora', 'phenomena', and 'paradoxical', though these are sometimes used inaccurately (e.g., 'phenomena' is plural, but used as a singular noun). There are also some collocation errors, such as 'withdraw of cash' instead of 'withdrawing cash' and 'time consuming' used as a noun phrase. While the range is sufficient to communicate, the lack of precision and occasional word-choice errors limit the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('numerous online shopping app does not', 'mobile phone app are'), missing articles ('in contrast to yester years'), and awkward phrasing ('individuals life become'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex sentences. The control of punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of basic grammatical slips prevents a higher score.
