Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries, doing transactions using cellphones have became very popular in recent times. Although it has few demerits, I believe that it encourages positive development along with several advantages that will be stated further.

One the one hand, making payments using smartphones has endless merits. First and the foremost is the convenience as people who are busy in wok spaces or jobs can easily make payments using just their mobile phones without handling or travelling anywhere else. In addition, time and financial management. Technology has become so advanced that individual can make payments under seconds without wasting any time and is also able to maintain record of payments as all of the information is available digitally, which allows people to spend and save money accordingly.

Furthermore, security is the major advantage as the payment applications require facial, fingerprint and other verifications to log in and make payments. As a result, theft of physical money has significantly reduced across the nations serving as a advantage.

On the other hand, there are few points to keep in mind while using cellphones to make transactions, one and the most dangerous is the cyber crime allocated along technology that allows payment through phones as various types of risks like hacking, password thefts and so on make people think twice before doing so. In addition, elderly population finds it difficult to use technology due to which sense of being left behind comes in mind.

To conclude, although there are few risks in using mobile phones to make transactions but its advantages such as convenience, time and financial management completely outlook the aforementioned disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, covering convenience, financial management, and security as benefits, while acknowledging cybercrime and the digital divide as drawbacks. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'financial management' is not fully explained, and the discussion on the elderly could be more detailed. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific examples or deeper analysis for each point rather than listing them briefly. Overall, the position is clear and maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and the foremost', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'allocated along technology' or 'completely outlook the aforementioned disadvantages'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved to sound more natural. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the advantages and disadvantages, which contributes to the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'transactions', 'cyber crime', and 'digitally'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'doing transactions' (making transactions), 'wok spaces' (workplaces), and 'outlook' (outweigh). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise word usage. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to technology and finance to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'have became' (have become), 'individual can' (individuals can), and 'as a advantage' (as an advantage). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, these frequent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and pluralization rules. Attempting more complex structures is good, but ensure they are grammatically sound to avoid frequent minor errors.
