Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of mobile payment applications. A clear position is established early and maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas are under-developed. For instance, the mention of 'Scotia bank reward customers' is a bit anecdotal and lacks broader extension, and the claim about government mandates in Asian countries is somewhat generalized and imprecise. The essay covers the main aspects of the prompt—efficiency, economic impacts, and security concerns—qualifying it comfortably for a Band 6.0 performance under Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and attempts logical sequencing with paragraphs dedicated to advantages, disadvantages, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Sentences are often disjointed, as seen in the isolated introductory paragraph and abrupt transitions like 'Rising scams related to online banking.' Paragraphing is utilized, but the internal flow of ideas lacks smooth transitional bridges. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun use in 'it helps in creating a well managed financial planning.' Overall, these issues place the response at a Band 6.0 for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'authorisation', 'vulnerable sectors', and 'financial planning'. However, there are notable word choice errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'realiable' instead of reliable, 'transcations' instead of transactions, 'conveinent' instead of convenient, and 'artifical' instead of artificial. Collocations are sometimes awkward, for example, 'hiking can negatively impact a countries economy.' While these errors are noticeable, they do not severely impede overall communication, aligning the response with the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. However, there are frequent grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Transactions through cellphones is spiking'), article omissions ('government is mandatory', 'in phone'), and awkward phrasing ('which is asking them to select a option in which they can loose all thier savings'). Punctuation and spelling errors also recur. Because errors are frequent enough to distract the reader while simple sentences generally remain clear, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
