Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's World, it has been becoming increasingly common to pay for things using smart phone apps. This development has both advantages and disadvantages. However, in my opinion advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

The Merits of these apps are plenty. First of all, they are more safe than using cash. One does not need to be worried about carrying and protecting the cash.Especially, in countries like Pakistan, where it is not always safe to carry cash.

Secondly, these apps allow you to order things from all over the world by paying online. This makes things from all over the world easily accessible to you.

Furthermore, these apps have made paying large amount of money to someone very easy. For instance, if you need to make payment for a house instead of paying a large amount of cash, which is very unfeasible and unsafe, you can make a quick payment by using this app, making this process so much quick and safe.

On the other hand, there are certain downsides as well. Not everyone know how to use these apps. Especially small street buisness owners. So if you are out of cash and want to buy a cheap street food, you will not be able to.Morever, these apps not work always.Sometimes due to maintence issues these apps not work properly always

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe the advantages of mobile payment apps outweigh the disadvantages. You address both sides and give relevant examples, including the safety of carrying cash in Pakistan, access to overseas goods, and paying for a house. However, some points are less fully developed than others: the claim about ordering goods worldwide is briefly explained, and the disadvantages are limited to access for small street businesses and service interruptions. The response also does not meet the stated 250-word minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasoning. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each point and add a further relevant example, while keeping your overall position clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph presenting advantages, and a paragraph beginning with “On the other hand” for disadvantages. Sequencing words such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “Furthermore” help readers follow the main points, and the conclusion of your position is apparent from the opening. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, the linking is somewhat mechanical, and the final disadvantage paragraph ends abruptly without a concluding sentence. Some ideas also sit in very short paragraphs, which interrupts development. Group related points into fuller paragraphs, use referencing such as “this payment method” to connect sentences, and finish by briefly reaffirming your judgement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “cash,” “accessible,” “payment,” and “downsides.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “maintence issues” and “street buisness owners,” although spelling errors affect accuracy. Some expressions are repetitive or imprecise: “things from all over the world” appears twice, while “so much quick” does not express the intended meaning naturally. “Merits” is understandable, but the capitalisation in “The Merits” is unnecessary. Broaden your range with precise terms for convenience, security, and reliability, and check spelling and collocations carefully. These improvements would make the argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and some longer structures, including the example beginning “For instance, if you need to make payment for a house…”. Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “it has been becoming” is an awkward tense form, “Not everyone know” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “these apps not work always” is missing an auxiliary. Several sentences also run together because spaces after full stops are missing. Practise forming negatives and questions with auxiliaries, checking singular and plural agreement, and punctuating sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts easier to read.
