Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Lily,

hope you're doing well!

I just received your letter regarding your camping holiday and I'm too excited for it as I believe it's a good idea and you'll enjoy it.

First of all, the reasons why I feel that it is a perfect plan for the holiday is that the weather during this period of the summer will be a little bit chilling perfectly suitable for such activity. also, for a first-time camping, you will definitely enjoy the camping experience exploring the nature, playing board games, and slow down for some time from the busy life. this will help you to relax and recharge your energy.

On the other hand, you have to take care of the wild animals that are live in these areas. so, I advise that you shouldn't walk alone at nights. Additionally, hiking shoes is essential for this activity not to hurt your legs.

At the end, I'd love to share this experience with you as I think we will have much fun together so, I'll manage my work commitments and let you know the exact dates that suits me.

Cheers,

Madonna

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that Lily may enjoy exploring nature and relaxing, mention risks from wild animals and the need for suitable footwear, and say you would like to join her. Your enthusiasm is clear, and the advice is relevant to a first camping trip. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The disadvantages focus mainly on safety, while the footwear advice is more a preparation tip than a disadvantage; you could also mention discomfort, bad weather, or limited facilities. The invitation is positive, but “I’ll manage my work commitments” leaves your availability uncertain. Develop these details and make your plans more definite to cover the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall shape: an opening, a paragraph explaining the appeal of camping, a paragraph on possible drawbacks, and a closing that expresses your interest in going. Connectors such as “First of all,” “On the other hand,” and “Additionally” help signal the stages of your response. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical, and some sentences run ideas together, particularly the final sentence beginning “At the end.” The shift from disadvantages to advice about hiking shoes also weakens the paragraph’s focus. Use clearer sentence boundaries and group related points more tightly; for example, keep safety risks together and present equipment as a separate practical suggestion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a friendly letter, including relevant expressions such as “camping experience,” “exploring the nature,” “recharge your energy,” and “work commitments.” These help communicate your enthusiasm and advice. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that make the writing less fluent, such as “a little bit chilling” for the weather and “slow down for some time from the busy life.” “Wild animals that are live in these areas” is also an awkward phrase. Aim for more natural collocations, such as “cool and pleasant,” “take a break from your busy routine,” and “animals that live in the area.” More precise vocabulary for camping drawbacks would also strengthen the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “as” and a sentence explaining how camping could help Lily relax. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “the reasons … is” has subject–verb disagreement, “for a first-time camping” uses an incorrect noun form, and “hiking shoes is essential” has a plural subject with a singular verb. There are also sentence-boundary and capitalization problems: “also” and “this” begin sentences without capitals, while the final sentence joins several ideas with commas. Check agreement and sentence boundaries, and practise forming clauses with accurate verb patterns to improve control.
