Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear john,

I am writing this letter to you why I am not going with you on a camping vacation.

The primary reason is that i have been taken admission in computer coaching center. Because i want to learn some AI forms you also know due to hectic academic schedule it is too hard to take time for another activities. therefore i decided to learn AI language during summer holidays.

Besides this, which place you selected for camping there is showing whole week rain that is why i do not consider we will enjoy more as expected. I think you should also think again about your plan. However i am not forcing to cancel your plan. If you have been already decided to go for camping you should go. I hope you will enjoy a lot.

Thank you for sharing this plan with me. Unfortunately, i can not join your company due to those reasons.

your faithfully

Sukhman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to address the core instructions of the task. The prompt asks you to explain why your friend would enjoy camping and to describe potential disadvantages. Instead, you wrote a letter explaining why you cannot join the trip. By focusing entirely on your own schedule and the weather, you have ignored the requirement to provide advice to your friend about the camping experience itself. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, as the content does not align with the prompt's requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'Besides this, which place you selected...'. The progression of ideas is disjointed because the content does not follow the structure requested in the prompt. While the reader can follow the basic message, the lack of clear paragraphing related to the specific task points hinders the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'take time for another activities' and 'enjoy a lot'. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'taken admission' instead of 'enrolled' or 'registered', and 'join your company' which is not the standard way to express declining an invitation. To improve, you should aim for more natural collocations and a wider range of vocabulary to express your ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I am writing this letter to you why I am not going' (missing 'to explain'), 'there is showing whole week rain' (incorrect verb structure), and 'If you have been already decided' (incorrect tense). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters for 'i' and 'john'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors in syntax and word order.
