Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Chris,

I hope this letter finds you well. I'm just writing in response to your letter seeking advice on going to camping.

I'm very happy to hear that you're going to experience something really exciting for the first time. This holiday will give you lifetime experience because stay in a camp without fancy amenities and adapt nature, gives totally new experience. This will also change your way of thinking about people who live in tribals and who do not have facilities to survive.

I would like to alert you that there are chances to attacked by wild animals; therefore, you should properly research to handle this kind of situation before going to camping. Also, weather is unpredictable in forest region because of the greenery there is possibility of rain. You should choose waterproof tent, battery lights. Besides, your truck should have first aid too.

I have one surprise for you, I'm joining you for this adventurous holiday. I was thinking about the holiday destination, but I was not sure where to go. So I thought I should come with you.

Till then let's catch up on zoom someday to discuss further preparations.

Regards,

Sam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing potential disadvantages, and confirming your participation. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed. For example, the explanation of why camping changes one's perspective on 'tribals' is a bit vague and could have been more clearly articulated. Additionally, the advice regarding safety and equipment is relevant, but the transition to the final point about joining the trip feels a little abrupt. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'therefore', 'also', and 'besides' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition in the second paragraph could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the idea of 'tribals' and the camping experience is slightly disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'unpredictable', 'amenities', and 'adventurous'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'going to camping' (should be 'going camping'), 'adapt nature' (should be 'adapt to nature'), and 'live in tribals' (should be 'live in tribal communities'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise usage. You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, which is a positive step toward higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'there are chances to attacked' (should be 'there are chances of being attacked') and 'weather is unpredictable in forest region' (missing articles). Additionally, 'your truck should have first aid too' is slightly awkward phrasing. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on article usage, passive voice construction, and subject-verb agreement.
