Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Abhijot,
How have you been? It's been a long time since we had a proper chat. I heard this summer you are planning to go for camping and that's too for the very first time. To be honest, I think you are going to love it, talking from my experience those early morning sunrise, fresh air, away from busy corporate life it feels like healing a soul.
However, it's not always as smooth as we think because of rainy weather's nowadays so keep tracking on that also make sure to pack some essentials like bear spray or fire light as you may see some animals in the woods during night time especially. Apart from this, take a warm blanket as its gonna be real cold during midnight.
Therefore, I was thinking if you are going alone, I can join you as my summer holidays starts from 5th June till 15th July and I don't really have any plans. It might me helpful for you also, as you can learn how to make a tent or make a fire and food without stove while camping and I can teach you some basic safety tricks.
Rest let me know what you think? And I hope you understands all the things i have explained.
Take care,
Sukhman

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|
| Task Achievement / Task Response | 8.0 |
| Coherence and Cohesion | 7.5 |
| Lexical Resource | 7.0 |
| Grammatical Range and Accuracy | 6.5 |
| Overall | 7.5 |
Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain why camping is enjoyable, provide relevant disadvantages (weather and wildlife), and offer to join your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why'—for example, by describing the specific mental benefits of nature in more detail. However, all requirements are met with a clear and consistent position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing that separates the different requirements of the task. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'Apart from this', and 'Therefore' to link ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, the final paragraph is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate the coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'busy corporate life' and 'safety tricks'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'that's too for the very first time' (should be 'that too') and 'keep tracking on that' (should be 'keep track of that'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations or less common lexical items would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'those early morning sunrise' (should be 'sunrises'), 'as its gonna be' (should be 'as it is going to be'), and 'I hope you understands' (should be 'understand'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of formal/informal contractions.
