Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear ABC,

I am glad to receive your letter. I am writing this letter in respond of the suggestion you have asked for. I believe, going on camping holiday would be the great idea.

Firstly, there are many positive aspects of going on camping. The first and foremost is getting opportunity to explore natural surroundings, especially in the era of hustle an bustle. Additionally, you can relax your mind and enjoy lushed green scenarios while taking break from the hectic schedule of daily life.

On the other hand, I would like to mention possible risks associated with camping. You have to be very prepared with the stuff of daily living as you would not find anything around you. Even you also have to carry basic ingredients for cooking. Along with, it would be beneficial if you could take a first aid kit with you, as you will not have any access to the healthcare facilities.

Lastly, I would love to join you for this trip, but unfortunately, I would not be available on those days due to my upcoming presentation.

I hope you enjoy your trip and have a great fun!

Yours lovingly,

ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly explain why your friend would enjoy camping, identify practical disadvantages like the need for self-sufficiency and medical preparedness, and provide a clear reason for your inability to join. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why'—for example, by mentioning specific activities like hiking or stargazing—to further develop your ideas. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through your points. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. The progression of ideas is clear, and the letter maintains a consistent focus throughout, making it easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'hustle and bustle', 'hectic schedule', and 'natural surroundings'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'lushed green scenarios' (should be 'lush green scenery') and 'great fun' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). You also have a minor error in 'in respond of' (should be 'in response to'). While these errors do not impede communication, more precise word choices would elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'going on camping holiday' (missing an article: 'a camping holiday'), 'the great idea' (should be 'a great idea'), and 'Even you also have to carry' (redundant). Punctuation is generally fine, though there are minor slips with commas. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding of your message.
