Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Riya,

I hope you are doing well.

I read your mail regarding camping holiday this summer. So, I advice you that you should go on it because I know you will really enjoy a lot. Last summer, I went to a Island named Taffino. It is the best place for camping. Moreover, A beach is also near the camping place. As I know you love beaches and one thing that you would love to see is stargazing.

On the other hand, there are two disadvantages that I faced was rain and wild animals. Sometimes bears comes near tents which feels terrible but don't worry about it Because there is always a team available for your help. Additionally, Please check the weather first in which week you want to go so You can avoid rainy days.

Overall, this place this the best for camping and bonfire. I also love to join you on this camping holiday. I visited this place before but I like to go with you second time. Let me know about your thoughts on it.

Looking forward for your response.

Best wishes,

suman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and confirming your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed. For instance, while you mention stargazing and beaches, expanding slightly on why these specific activities are enjoyable would have strengthened the response. The advice regarding weather and safety is relevant and helpful. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'Additionally' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between the mention of bears and the advice to check the weather could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which supports the clarity of your message.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'stargazing', 'bonfire', and 'disadvantages'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I advice you' (should be 'advise') and 'I went to a Island' (should be 'an island'). While you attempt to use some descriptive language, the vocabulary remains fairly basic. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions suitable for an informal letter, such as 'breathtaking scenery' or 'unforgettable experience'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('bears comes' instead of 'bears come') and incorrect article usage ('a Island'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and capitalization inconsistencies, such as 'Because' and 'You' being capitalized mid-sentence. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent capitalization and punctuation throughout your writing.
