Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Akash,

I hope you are doing well. I would advice you to go on a camping holiday. I think you would enjoy camping. Because, you can explore nature and camp fire.

Secondly, you have some disadvantages on camping like mosquito biting. Moreover, you can find different type of insects. Better to avoid that use mosquito repellant cream.

In addition, I would like to go camping with you this summer. I also know a very beautiful place, which I got to know from my cousins. In that camping site they enjoyed a lot. At that camping spot they have a small pond. So, we can have a some peaceful time by doing fishing. I am very excited to go on a camping. However, we can go on a shopping before two days to buy some necessary things like tent, camping chairs, meat and masalas.

To conclude, we must take some precautions before going on camping.

Your's Lovingly,

Gulshan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining why the friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and confirming interest in joining. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the friend would enjoy camping is brief and lacks depth, relying on simple phrases like 'explore nature'. The disadvantages are also mentioned in a very basic way. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more detail and personal anecdotes, rather than just listing points. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, but the overall development of ideas needs more substance to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the logical progression could be smoother. For instance, the transition between discussing the disadvantages and suggesting the use of repellent is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack clear connection to the previous thought. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will help improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'camping site', 'mosquito repellant', and 'precautions'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'I would advice you' (should be 'advise') and 'go on a shopping' (should be 'go shopping'). To improve, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and varied collocations to make your writing more engaging. You rely on simple, repetitive structures, so expanding your vocabulary to include more precise terms will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'Because, you can explore nature and camp fire' (a sentence fragment), 'mosquito biting' (should be 'mosquito bites'), and 'have a some peaceful time' (incorrect article usage). There are also punctuation errors, such as the incorrect use of the apostrophe in 'Your's'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and sentence boundaries will significantly improve your accuracy.
