Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear harsh,
How are you my friend? hope you are doing well. Yesterday later in the evening i received your letter about camping holiday. Firstly i got surprised because i know you very well you are not a nature person and now you are asking for my advice for camping. On the other side side i am very happy because we only have one life we should do whatever our heart wants to do and in this i advice you to go for sure because with this holiday you will have another experience which you never had before and you will have more memories as well as you can spend more time in nature and feel that calmness which feels when sitting in nature. I allow you but please careful about few things like insects, snakes because you are going to their place and they can harm. I am also planning for camping this summer with my friends as from long time we are also planning but for some reasons we missed but now we will also plan to go for sure. Please be careful about your surroundings and take care see you soon!!
Your friend

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing potential disadvantages, and stating your interest in joining them. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the disadvantages are restricted to a brief mention of insects and snakes. To improve, you should expand on these points with more detail or personal anecdotes to fully develop your response. The letter covers the requirements, but the depth of the content could be increased to reach a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is generally easy to follow, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'On the other side'. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is contained in one large block of text. Using clear paragraph breaks to separate the different points (the advice, the disadvantages, and your own plans) would significantly improve the structure and readability. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel a bit abrupt, which affects the flow of the writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some natural expressions like 'nature person' and 'calmness'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I allow you' (which sounds unnatural in this context; 'I encourage you' would be better) and 'not a nature person' (which should be 'not an outdoorsy person'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Focusing on learning more idiomatic collocations related to travel and advice would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
Your writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('in nature' vs 'in the nature'), punctuation errors (missing commas after introductory phrases), and run-on sentences. For example, 'I am also planning for camping this summer with my friends as from long time we are also planning but for some reasons we missed but now we will also plan to go for sure' is a long, repetitive, and grammatically confusing sentence. Improving your control over sentence boundaries and basic grammar rules will help improve your score.
