Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear friend,

Last day joe told about your plan for going on a camping holiday. I came to know that it is your first time to camp. I thought to write as I have a wonderful experience regarding that.

I think you must prefer to camp in Lipa Hut. It is an amazing site. The management is very caring and friendly. You can experience different activities there besides camping. The location is itself full of greenery and scenic beauty that you would not feel any boredom. you can cook your food yourself, can experience the thrill of zipline, can follow the trail while go for highking. Different games are also provided there through management, like targets by cross bow. If you love horses, then can enjoy horse riding as well. Moreover, to enjoy Bonfire at night is another amazing experience.

However, some drawbacks can also be observed. In case of heavy rainfall, sometimes it gets difficult to keep you and your tents including equipment safe and sound. Last summer, it was heard that some wild animals like jackals moved to that camping site because of severe weather. Overall, it did not result in any loss or damage.

I would love to join you. But because of my some important tasks, it would not be possible to accompany you this time. Hope so the next summer, get ready to enjoy together.

Kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly explain why your friend would enjoy camping, provide specific disadvantages such as weather and wildlife, and state your inability to join them. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the description of the campsite activities. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening is more natural; 'Last day joe told about your plan' is slightly awkward. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear and consistent tone throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In case of', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences could be smoother in some places. For instance, the second paragraph is a list of features that could benefit from more varied linking words to connect the activities. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas from the recommendation to the drawbacks and finally the conclusion is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'scenic beauty', 'thrill of zipline', and 'severe weather' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'through management' instead of 'by the management' and 'highking' which is a spelling error. While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the overall range is adequate rather than wide. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and ensure spelling is accurate, as these small errors slightly limit the precision of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I thought to write as I have a wonderful experience regarding that' (should be 'about that') and 'Hope so the next summer' (should be 'I hope that next summer'). There are also minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'the location is itself full of greenery'. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the communication remains effective. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for minor errors would help raise this score.
