Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear John,

I am writing this letter to advise you to go on a camping vacation for a new experience this summer.

Going on a camping vacation is a great way to rejuvenate from a hectic work life, being close to the nature can relieve your stress and anxiety, which will lead you to feel energized and recharged. Moreover, it is a great experience to go out on vacation expecially close to nature instead to hussle and bustle of the metro city.

On the other hand, there are some disadvantages like limited facilities in the camping area. Most of the forest region does not have mobile network coverage, which makes it difficult to stay connected to the close people. Also, there are very limited food options unlike metro cities.

It would be a great fun if we could plan a camping trip this summer, along with all our friends. We can plan a 2 day camping trip, which can be a very memorable experience for all of us. Moreover, I would be delighted if you plan it as soon as possible.

Do let me know if you like this plan.

Yours faithfully,

Jason Michael.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy6.5
Overall7.0

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly explain the benefits of camping, identify relevant disadvantages, and express enthusiasm for joining the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why'—for instance, by mentioning specific activities like hiking or campfire cooking—to fully develop your ideas. However, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'On the other hand' to link your thoughts. To improve, try to vary your transition words further and ensure that referencing is precise. For example, in the second paragraph, 'instead to hussle' is a bit disjointed; using a more fluid transition would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'rejuvenate', 'hectic', and 'energized'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'close to the nature' (should be 'close to nature') and 'hussle and bustle of the metro city' (should be 'hustle and bustle of the city'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding unnecessary words like 'metro' when describing a city.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'being close to the nature' (article error), 'instead to hussle' (preposition/spelling error), and 'It would be a great fun' (unnecessary article). Additionally, 'Yours faithfully' is typically used for formal letters to people you do not know; for a friend, 'Yours sincerely' or 'Best wishes' would be more appropriate. Increasing your control over articles and prepositions will help improve your score.
