Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear dev,

Hope this letter finds you in radiant health and best of spirits. I'm writing this letter regarding camping advice.

As you know 2 month ago, I visited Buff for camping activities. That time it was winter but still we enjoyed a lot. And you told that your company organizing a camping holiday i would say that you can't miss this opportunity and also it is summer you will enjoy more. I difinetly say that you will enjoy camping activities because i know you are nature lover and this activities mostly done in forest.

It has also some demerit too like in this activity you have to walk too much that is more disadvantages as i know you when we were doing gym you always told that i don't like to walk so that might challenging for you.

In addition i also want to go in this summer for camping if my parents allow me. In middle of summer we will plan to go Buff once again with same friends and also if you would like to come that's great we will enjoy more.

I hope you understand my point and hope you don't miss this summer camping holiday, If you have any question you can ask me any time.

See you soon

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mention the disadvantage of walking, and express your interest in joining. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why your friend would enjoy it is quite brief, and the mention of the disadvantage could be expanded with more specific details to better meet the requirements of a Band 7 response. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'As you know', but the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task, which is a positive feature of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'radiant health', 'opportunity', and 'nature lover'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'demerit' instead of 'disadvantage' or 'drawback', and 'company organizing' instead of 'company is organizing'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage to reach a higher band score. Spelling errors like 'difinetly' also occur.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('I visited Buff for camping activities'), subject-verb agreement issues ('my company organizing'), and tense inconsistencies ('That time it was winter but still we enjoyed a lot'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit the score to a Band 5.5 or 6.0.
