Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Keval,

I hope you are doing better. I was glad to hear from you and I would be happy to give you some suggestions on camping. You have been thinking about it since winter and now it's summer again and it will be beautiful to plan a camping trip.

A few weeks ago, I went on a camp night with my school friends and it was amazing. I really know that you like nature and you always like to stay out. That is a perfect reason that you would enjoy a camping holiday.

However, there are some possible disadvantages to this. Last time, we had to setup our camp without any network on our phones. It was tough to build tents and light up the camp fire without youtube because all of us were beginners. It took us quite a while to figure out all these stuff.

The scenery was amazing and the main disadvantage of network problem became the beneficial to bring all of us together. This year, I really would like to go for a small camping event with you so that we could both enjoy our time together.

I am confident that you will say yes to this trip and you will find my advice useful.

Yours faithfully,

Suhel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping by referencing their love for nature, described the disadvantages such as the lack of mobile network and the difficulty of setting up equipment, and clearly stated your interest in joining them. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on the specific types of nature activities your friend might enjoy or provide more detail on the camping equipment challenges.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Last time', and 'This year' to transition between ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. For example, the sentence 'That is a perfect reason that you would enjoy a camping holiday' could be linked more smoothly to the previous sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'scenery', 'beneficial', and 'confident'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'camp night' is not a standard collocation (better: 'camping trip'), and 'all these stuff' is grammatically informal and imprecise. The phrase 'the main disadvantage of network problem became the beneficial' is awkward and lacks precision. Improving your control over collocations and using more precise nouns would help elevate your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I really know that you like nature' (better: 'I know you love nature'), 'all these stuff' (should be 'all this stuff'), and 'became the beneficial' (should be 'became a benefit'). Punctuation is generally accurate, but there are minor slips in phrasing. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and quantifiers. The errors present do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score.
