Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mike,

I hope you are doing well. I remebered that a week ago, you have asked me some suggestion about a camping holiday. So, I know one interesting place for a camping trip for this summer.

Last summer, I have visited toronto island for a camping trip with my family members. We did numerous things over there such as bush-fire, fishing nearby river, and played multiple games at dark night. It was great memoreble experianced. As per as I concern, you should visit that place with your relative. You will enjoy a lot over there.

You might face several challenges because area is very narrow due to that you can not travel by car to the camping site. Apart from this, you need to bring your own refreshment as it is far away from town.

If I get opportunity I love to travel with you. However, I have to attend my panio sessions in this summer. So, it is quite challenging to join with you for camping holidays.

Best regards,

Piyush.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and stating your availability. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when describing the disadvantages, you mention the area is 'narrow' and 'far away from town', but these points could be expanded with more detail to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band. The letter is clearly focused on the task, and the purpose is evident throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this', 'However', and 'So' to link your sentences. While the structure is logical, the flow between some sentences feels a bit mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the letter. Overall, the information is arranged coherently, and the paragraphing is used appropriately for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'refreshment', 'challenges', and 'opportunity'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'remebered', 'memoreble', 'experianced', and 'panio', which slightly distract the reader. Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'bush-fire' (which usually implies a dangerous wildfire) instead of 'campfire', and 'as per as I concern' instead of 'as far as I am concerned'. Improving your spelling and collocation accuracy will help you reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses, such as 'you have asked me' (should be 'you asked me') and 'I have visited' (should be 'I visited'). You also have some issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'at dark night' (should be 'at night') and 'join with you' (should be 'join you'). While these errors are frequent, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
